Inktober 2021, Day 17: Collide

Collide - Ink drawing, 21x16 cm, 2021

The word for day 17 was - collide. It did not take long for me to know what I wanted to do for this one. A meteorite collision! Yes! It is colliding into a surface. Not necessarily Earth’s surface either. The difficult part came later, of course, as I was trying to figure out how to lay my vision on the paper. It is one of those that had a bunch of failed versions before it clicked into place. In the end, it was well worth it! The mad scientist laughs.

At first, I thought about using only a brush pen to ink it, but it felt unfinished. It was missing something crucial. I sat and contemplated for a good while if adding in other liquid inks would make it or break it. Hell! They made it alive! I screamed with joy when I saw it unfold before my eyes. You know when it’s right! And damn, it feels great!

The bottom right photo is the unfinished back and white brush pen version I considered. I am glad I went further and added in liquids. As I started adding the Diamine jet black to the shockwave, I guess there was a little bit of Arabian Nights blue ink still in my brush, and it found its way into this drawing on the bottom left corner there. Sneaky bastard! Well, I have to be more careful with washing my brushes xD For the fire trail, I used my new Diamine drawing inks - Canary Yellow and Ruby red. They are amazing and did the job perfectly!

Holy Moly! I am so happy with how it turned out! What do you think?

Whoa. Nice one! This might be my favorite so far. It kind of has a comic book vibe to it, to me. Its Very cool!!! Well done

It kind of has a comic book vibe to it,

I agree :)

It is my favorite so far as well! It did not come easy, but when it did... lets just say I desperately needed it, especially since I have been so exhausted lately.

I have used inks from time to time as part of my hobby painting miniatures for role-playing games and war games. I have used The Masters Brush Cleaner and just a basic bar of Fels-Naptha soap. I think the latter works as well as the former for my needs. What is your usual process when you need to remove all of the prior ink, as with the blue that snuck through here?

Oh that is so cool! I have always wanted to try role-playing games the proper way with all the systems and dice rolling, but unfortunately, I have never had the company nor the chance, but I have played some role playing games in a sense of writing a story together with multiple people who play different characters with in a game masters world in a forum type of environment. I loved it! These days I feel I would be confident to attempt drawing my own characters too if I was playing.

Yea, when it comes to brush cleaning, I don't use any special cleaners for it, just warm water and gentile soap. I bet someone with more knowledge probably would shake their head watching me do that too :D

Miniatures, maps, and dice are fun, and that is still the way I tend to run my library Dungeons & Dragons games. My non-work group has been moving more toward "theater of the mind" gameplay, though. We have been playing a system called Genesys which uses more abstract, descriptive terms for distances instead of the D&D "You're 30 feet (6 squares) away from the goblin."

As for war games, I find myself drawn more to smaller-scale skirmish games as opposed to mass battles. But I do occasionally still have the itch to play Orks in Warhammer 40,000 because they get to roll all the dice!

Perhaps, I should look into acquiring something like it? Is it something you would recommend as starting point or an introduction to how to play by rulebooks and stuff? I feel I would need someone more experience to guide me through it. I believe I have tried only simplified versions of role-playing games that did not have all the rules determining fate of the characters.

The best way to start is probably checking your local area for game stores that host weekly games. They usually can provide pre-generated characters and help you learn the rules for a given game system as you play. No real need to buy anything until you know whether it's a good hobby for you or not.

I love the composition of this one and the light placement is amazing

Aw, I am glad you liked this one. I still can't believe it all came together so well :)

Aww thank you so much @purepinay! I never want to stop getting better and better. This inking challenge is surprising me a lot with all the wonders and gems I find every day creating something.

You're most welcome! That's great, keep up the awesome work. Am so jealous! I have to start doing some ink practice someday.

My baby just did his painting on canvas last night for the first time. 😊

This feels like a graphic novel :)

Yep, that is the type of look I was aiming for at first. Just black and white, but ended up adding colors in the end as I felt a bit stuck not knowing how to make it look more completed. Maybe it was just in my head that it wasn't and could have stopped there too :)

Beautiful. Fiery. Simply captivating

Thank you for your kind words @empress-eremmy! I am glad you liked it :)
