Yes, in my portrait drawings on black paper, I apply more intense white color to the areas where the brightness of the face is intense. For example, the cheeks, the upper part of the nose, the upper part of the eyebrows, the chin part are usually whiter. Wherever the shadow falls on the face, I leave that part of the face black. In fact, it would have made more sense to add a few white eyebrow strands instead of leaving the eyebrows completely black in this drawing. Because the man is old :)
