River of Life

The past couple weeks I had to rethink why I have any presence on social media at all. For Hive it was clear that I met a couple of cool friends and creators and want to support their efforts and also had fun collecting crypto along the way. But what am I doing on Facebook. I started that account years ago but totally disagree with where the company is going. It is like a tug of war in there from the left and the right. It is the same company as Instagram but I don't feel the tugs on Instagram. Probably because Instagram doesn't allow links in posts so spamming is more difficult.

On youtube I posted my English class videos under 김치쌤 and kids all over the country used them to study English during the pandemic.

Among all the videos, kids liked the singing videos. It is the relaxed American voice these kids liked. They said that the education videos they get are just cramming information. They want some time to practice and relax. I made this song a year ago, but there are still hundreds of kids listening. It's based on a country hymn and I changed the words to fit the textbook. They would rather have anything original than study from the textbook.

As I thought about what I can really do to help in the pandemic it is to provide a storehouse of the word of God. Although it has been out for almost a decade there aren't so many good recordings of the new NIV version of the Bible. I challenged myself to record a little each day to finish the whole Bible in three years along with the Daily Bread passage.

Here is one example:

Editing the audio to fit the passage takes more time than I had accounted for but it is still reasonable as each passage takes about one hour from recording to publication. I know there are people who appreciate this. One stay home mom told me:

These videos would not have been possible without the help of Dpend's “Drink from the Spring.” This song provides a meditative background which fits almost any scripture.

Fine, don't take my word for it, visit his sound cloud yourself:

Anything that comes out of that spring is classic.

There is a river of life flowing out of there.

Suddenly this came to my mind

This Doors video is the picture of a man trying to get out of the corona hot spot into the springs of life. He hops into Lee Iacocca's mustang and the rest is history. Beautiful song.

I wonder if they got anything from Ford for showing off the vehicle in the video. Words have so much power in our life and cannot be easily brushed off. One by one the events in the world remind me that this world is not my home. Things are getting tough for everybody. Even our mayor in Seoul didn't know what to do when he faced condemnation. If only he heard Jesus' words, "Neither do I condemn you. Go now and leave your life of sin."

I can never forget these songs from the 60s and 70s that I heard when I was little. There is a message in the songs. Today songs come out more algorithmicly.

As if "Savage" was not enough they had to make a "Savage" remake. How savage can you get?

Tell me about it

When I think about "nowadays the youngsters are missing all the good stuff", suddenly reminds me how OLD I am. Get over it dude. Basically we just need to roll over and die. They will continue to evolved into something someday we won't even call it music no more, and they'll say we're too old to understand what is really going on in the real world... just like how I answer my dad when he say he doesn't understand why backstreet boys. So, are they backstreet uncle now? Or, are they supposed to be backstreet grandpa?

Now I know what my dad knows, which I didn't that time. Don't worry, I'm allowing my kids to give me BTS brainstorming session, and I'm doing everything I can to embrace the culture.
