A couple of weeks ago I found a folder with some old drawings, and I've liked the idea of moving them to digital little by little (varying a little the theme). So this time I show you this owl that I made in 2020.

I remember that at the time I made it I was in Caracas, and I only had at hand a pencil, an eraser, a black pen and a red marker, so I improvised with these materials.

Hace un par de semanas encontré una carpeta con algunos dibujos antiguos, y me ha gustado la idea de pasarlos a digital poco a poco (variando un poco la temática). Así que en esta ocasión les muestro este búho que hice en 2020.

Recuerdo que en el momento en que lo hice estaba en Caracas, y sólo tenía a mano un lápiz, una goma de borrar, un bolígrafo negro y un marcador rojo, así que improvisé con estos materiales.

Process | Proceso

I started like any other drawing with the choice of the color palette (although later I added others) and the sketch of the illustration.

Empecé como cualquier otro dibujo con la elección de la paleta de colores (aunque luego añadí otros) y el boceto de la ilustración.

I proceeded to make the eyes of the owl.

Base: I placed yellow, with a normal brush.
Shadows: black, brown and orange. Here I used the airbrush
Illumination: white.

Procedí a hacer los ojos del búho.

Base: Puse amarillo, con un pincel normal.
Sombras: negro, marrón y naranja. Aquí utilicé el aerógrafo
Iluminación: blanco.

I continued with the plumage. My main idea is to make you see two different realities, in the inner part the everyday one, an owl with beautiful brown plumage and the outer part something totally different.

Continué con el plumaje. Mi idea principal es hacer ver dos realidades diferentes, en la parte interior la cotidiana, un búho con un bonito plumaje marrón y en la parte exterior algo totalmente diferente.

Internal:

Base: with airbrush I placed a base in light gray.
Shadows: then I proceeded to give the shadows with black and medium gray, and from here, use a synthetic brush.
Body: for this I used caramel brown.
Illumination: one layer with soft light blending using a vanilla color.

Interior:

Base: con aerógrafo coloqué una base en gris claro.
Sombras: luego procedí a dar las sombras con negro y gris medio, y a partir de aquí, utilice un pincel sintético.
Cuerpo: para ello utilicé marrón caramelo.
Iluminación: una capa con luz suave difuminada utilizando un color vainilla.

External:

Base: I used again the airbrush and light blue.
Shadows: in a layer in multiply fusion, the synthetic brush and the colors black and navy blue.
Body: with the colors aqua green, green, turquoise, purple, and wine.
Illumination: layer in soft light fusion, with a vanilla tone.

Externo:

Base: Utilicé de nuevo el aerógrafo y el azul claro.
Sombras: en una capa en multiply fusion, el pincel sintético y los colores negro y azul marino.
Cuerpo: con los colores verde agua, verde, turquesa, morado y vino.
Iluminación: capa en fusión de luz suave, con un tono vainilla.

For the background, I placed it in black, and with the airbrush I placed the colors: magenta, red and orange, mixing them together.
Then in another layer I placed the purple, blue and green, I did the same, I wanted to give an effect of auroras or galaxy, with a layer in fusion "soft glow" I placed some stars.

Para el fondo, lo coloqué en negro, y con el aerógrafo coloqué los colores: magenta, rojo y naranja, mezclándolos.
Luego en otra capa coloqué el morado, azul y verde, hice lo mismo, quería dar un efecto de auroras o galaxia, con una capa en fusión "Brillo suave" coloqué algunas estrellas.
