On Monday night, after I returned home from work, I went to my first life drawing portrait session with Draw Brighton in my hometown in England. I remember being told about it by another artist called Ash from my last visit to Sussex County Arts Club in December for the last life drawing session of the year.
It was a free event, hosted every Tuesday evening, where each artist takes their turn to pose for 10 minutes for the other artists to sketch.
It was a fun exercise, even better that it is free, and I intend on going next week for a second time.
Of course I voluntereed too, right at the end, and it is a strange experience modelling for other artists for the first time!
Above image: My first page of sketches, each was 10 minutes each, sketched on large drawing paper also provided by Draw Brighton!
It did feel like some poses were more like 5 minutes. It was challenging with the low lighting in the pub, and the room was packed with about 35 artists.
Here are the close ups of the first page:
Above image: My first portrait sketch of the evening!
Above image: my second sketch of the evening of a friendly looking man!
Below are the rest:
Above image: This lady didn't look to happy, she had a pensive and very serious expression!
Above image: This artist seemed quite self assured, calm and confident.
Above image: This artist seemed quite nervous, she was fiddling with her fingers quite a bit and seemed anxious. She was a bit tricky to draw at times as her nervousness was a bit distracting, but it worked out in the end!
The close up:
Above image: This is my sketch of I think a Spanish artist called Maria.
Close up:
Above image: Sketch of another male artist, this one was difficult due to the shape of his nose and angle of the face.
Above image: And finally, my last sketch of this artist. This one I like the most!
And that's it for my first session with Draw Brighton!
Thank you for viewing,
Robbie
Probably not a bad thing to see what the other side of the medium is like XD
Yay for finding a new group? :)
