My first painting, urban landscape.

in Sketchbook10 months ago

Since I started painting, I had never seriously picked up a brush and painted with cold colors.

A month and a few weeks ago, in art school, my teacher asked us to paint a picture on canvas and gave us three concepts to choose from: portrait, landscape and still life. As I said, I had no experience with cool colors. In this case, I could have used oils, but I think I was convinced that it would be much more difficult. The thing is that I had to start with this new project, which was a new beginning for a new, more advanced high school course.

One of the requirements was that the reference or inspiration image at the beginning of the painting had to be entirely my own, which was very difficult for most of my classmates. I chose a street like "Arts Boulevard" (so called because they sell art supplies there in the evenings).

I didn't save many photos of the process, and I probably should have, but I tried to work on the process very quietly, I wanted it to be more personal, I wanted it to be fun, the photo stuff sometimes got in the way a little bit, and most of the time I was painting. I don't think I ever thought about saving parts of the process, because most of the time I was so immersed in the project that I was drawing.

But well, now it's time to present my work, HAHAHA.

My work is called "Places of my city" and I used the mixed painting technique, applying cold paints and colored pencils on a 30 x 24 cm canvas. For this work I was able to successfully use only six primary colors: blue, red, white, black, yellow and green. My sister @nicxi helped me a lot with the materials for this drawing, for which I am very grateful <3>. I had a lot of different feelings while working on this drawing, but I never got frustrated. It was a strange process of getting used to the sequence of colors and strokes, but it came out quite well. Aside from the painting technique, my already good knowledge of shadows and color work made the process and creation of this painting easier; a YouTube video was able to help me with my first painting and the video was very helpful, especially since I was already familiar with the concept of "painting in the city", which is a very important aspect of the urban landscape.

In conclusion, I really enjoyed painting this cityscape, what do you think?

In the new semester I have a new job waiting for me with the same assignment, but this time I am interested in still life painting.

See you next time!
