Hello everyone!
Today I painted icon of Apostoles Peter and Paul.
St. Peter's Day, or the feast of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, is celebrated on July 12 according to the Gregorian calendar, or June 29 according to the Julian calendar.
This holiday is dedicated to the holy apostles Peter and Paul, who are one of the most important figures in Christianity.
Saint Peter was one of the closest disciples of Jesus. Saint Paul, although he was not among the original twelve apostles, became one of the most important Christian missionaries and theologians.
Preparation for this holiday includes St. Peter's Lent, which lasts from the end of All Souls' Day until St. Peter's Day itself. Fasting can last for varying lengths of time, depending on the date of All Souls. It is believed that on St. Peter's Day one should not do heavy work in order to honor the holiday. Customs include attending liturgies as well as traditional folk dances and songs. In some parts of the Balkans, people light large bonfires on the eve of St. Peter's Day, a custom that dates back to ancient pagan times and symbolizes light and purification.
Both apostles had a great role in Christianity and its spread, and laying the foundations of the church. Their works and teachings are significant not only for theology, but also for Christian culture and history.
Very nice painting.
Thank you. 😊🍀
