Drawing has always been part of my life. Whether I was doodling in my notebook or trying to sketch my favorite characters, it was something I enjoyed without overthinking. Over the years, I've created a lot of drawings –some I'm proud of, and others that make me laugh or cringe.
Hello dear friends, in this blog, I will share some of my earlier works–the good, the bad, and the "what was I thinking? What's this?" ones. Each drawing has its own little story, and I hope you'll enjoy tagging along as I revisit these pieces of my past. Let's embrace the imperfections and celebrate the progress together!
Random Cute Reference From Internet
When I was on 9th grade, I didn’t draw very often, but I managed to keep a few of my sketches. These drawings are just so random, I will find reference that I think I can recreate. I was so thrifty with my paper that I fit all my sketches onto a single page.
I’m amazed I had already started sketching eyes back then and they weren’t bad at all! I was also into sketching cartoons, even though you can clearly see the imperfections in the details. I still have imperfections in my drawings today, of course, but I improved compared before.
Discovering Stippling Art
When I was on 10th grade I got interested in stippling art. It’s the coolest yet most tiring art style for me. It would take a whole day to finish (if you’re busy and can’t draw for long hours). I would just go dot, dot, dot all day. Despite the time it takes, I’m proud and happy with the results. It’s simple, yet it brings so much depth and texture to a drawing. Actually the process feels like it’s just you and your patience working together, and the final outcome always feels worth it.
Seeing these makes me want to do stippling again, but I need a great amount of time and patience first. By the end of the year, I promise myself to have at least one or two stippling pieces in 2025!
During high school, I didn’t have many drawings because I only drew whenever I want. But when the pandemic came, I ended up collecting a lot of drawings. I’m really thankful for art, especially during those times when we were all stuck at home. Sketching became my outlet, helping me cope with the situation.
Random sketches and Not- So - Realistic art
During pandemic, I've done many drawings. Like before, I would find random references online and sketch them. I wasn’t being stingy with paper this time; it became my style to fit multiple drawings on one sheet. This time, I started using vellum board for a smoother finish, and it really made a difference in the details. These drawings are just quick sketches and both for fun and practice. I often found myself laughing at the funny distortions in some of my drawings, like dislocated mouths, noses, and faces.
I also tried creating bigger drawings, and I attempted to sketch some people. Can you name them just by looking at my drawings? I bet you can't! I’m not that great when it comes to sketching faces and I can’t fully capture all the details. One of the people I sketched was Unique Salonga, a Filipino singer. I was a huge fan of him before. The other sketch is my friend, and I’m actually pretty happy with the result because it really does look like him. The rest of the sketches were copied from the internet, just to practice my drawing skills.
I find it fun to look at the imperfections in each of these drawings. It reminds me of how far I’ve come and how much I still enjoy the process of improving, even when the details aren’t perfect. ( I am such a perfectionist, yes.)
Newest Piece
I feel great seeing my progress over the years. It is clear that I’ve learned a lot, and even though there were many imperfections along the way, it’s exciting to look back. As I keep drawing, I’m looking forward to try new techniques and challenges because it's all about continuing to improve and enjoying the process!
