Studying Lights and Vanishing Points

in Sketchbook2 years ago

Hi there! I have been busy these days but can say that I should give myself a pat on the back since I manage to maintain my art scedule. I was busy studying vanishing points and I was getting a little bored so I decided to include lighting in my studies. Here is a quick piece that I make to study both things:

I added the characters just to practice placing human elements in my paintings so I just draw them as simple as possible. Here are the steps that I made to make this drawing:

Step 1:

I started my piece by stablishing first the vanishing point. I decided to use a one point vanishing point at the center of the canvas since it is the easiest for me to use.

Step 2:

Then I drew the mock up for the city that I want to draw. I didn't use any reference so I just used whatever comes into my imagination.

Step 3:

In the end, I end up with this. I didn't focused much on the line quality this time since it is a study about lights and vanishing point.

Step 4:

I colored the city in grayscale to stablish the values of my painting. I also added the mannequin for the characters that I want to draw.

Step 5:

I then fixed the values and added gradation to the buildings. I was trying to capture the feels of an early morning jog and I want to convey that through my values but I'm not quite sure if I was able to capture it lol.

Step 6:

I added the midtones. I found this cool trick on the internet which makes coloring this piece easier. I just set the layer into color then that's it! The color will only be applied to my values which we painted earlier.

Step 7:

To finished up the piece, I added some bounce light and reflected light to the scene. I also added some godrays to make the scene more grand.

Step 8:

Then, I added my favorite texture.

Step 9:

Then, lastly, I added a vignette for added effect.

That's it! That is how I made this piece. Thank you for checking my drawing and I hope you enjoyed it.
