Revisiting an artwork consecutively can come off as tiring and overwhelming especially when you're taking longer than expected to finish if the drawing. I felt that way when I was working on this piece.
Since I'm home for the CoronaVirus lockdown here and I've been less busier, my mother requested that I make a drawing of my aunt and her boyfriend... I needed something to work on so, yeah.. I obliged. Here we go.
TOOLS
Glossy cardboard in a 20 by 20 inches size
gpc charcoal pencil, soft and hard medium
Gpc graphite pencil 8b
Steadtler graphite pencil 6b
Tombow mini eraser 0.7mm
Mechanical 0.4mm pencil
Tortilions and blending stomp
I started this drawing off by starting from my aunt. She was at the left corner and since I draw with my right hand, it'd be best to draw from the right so I won't drag charcoal or graphite to places where they are not needed.
Drawing my aunt was the hardest part of this drawing because of the hairstyle she had on. It felt like hell that I had to try my best to duplicate curly long hair. I spent a whole day and didn't seem to be getting past the same result so I left it and moved to her face the next day. In the reference picture, he face was not so clear since she was at the back and she got a bit blurry so I had to pay extra focus on bringing out her skin tones and even as far as trying to get the shape of her mouth right.
Eventually, I finished her part and moved to her boyfriends image.
Now this is the second time I'll be drawing someone with a super fair skin and I'm still getting used to it. I started with his hair which is something a lot of people know me for already. It was coming out just fine.
Then I moved to shading the parts of the face apart from his dark shades. I was torn between darkening the tones on his face since the reference picture had very little shadows on his face and it was making the drawing look childish so I had to add in a few slightly darker shades so it popped out. I used the Tombow mono eraser to indicate the white beard.
After that, I drew his shades and it added a little bit of pop to it, I moved to his neck and shirt and this did not take too much of my time. I then added darker tones to his hair, cheek and the corners of his shirt.
And here's our final result.
What do you think guys?
This is really great... The model, have they seen it? If yes, what was their responses?
