That's so sweet of you to say. No, I wouldn't call it difficult. I worked in layers, going from wax to watercolor, back and forth, building it up until it was saturated enough. The opposite nature of the materials actually made it a fun exercise.
Gotta try that. Have you ever used masking fluid? Was thinking about it the other day. I am making plenty of mistakes, and sometimes even graphite is nearly impossible to get rid of from paper. But with this fluid one can keep some parts 'protected from abuse' ;) in order to have some clean parts of the white paper - I am very tempted. Just have no experience with it at all;/
That's the double-edged sword of creating art. A love-hate relationship sometimes. But as long as you don't let the disdain take over, you're probably still doing OK : ). It's not the same as creating a child, there's no requirement to love them all equally 😈 and it's OK to slash or burn your art if you feel like it's necessary!
Agreed! To be fair - hive helped me to be more understanding of my own work. And I have an extra motivation to finish my drawings. Then(when finished) they are much more difficult to destroy, you know:)))
Masking fluid has its perks, like you said, leaving some areas untouched during the rest of the process. In my experience, it can be annoying in some ways because it can tear off the top layer of your paper's surface (😭😭) during removal. Some brands are very smelly and difficult to apply quickly (they start to get gummy and gunky before you get the whole area covered). Also, they have a short shelf life of 6 months to 1 year. But it's fairly inexpensive, so I say go for it if you want to experiment!
You're totally right about finished drawings being more difficult to kill 😌. If it's finished and ugly, just put it in an unused corner somewhere for posterity.
Thank you so so much! I just had a feeing you know your way around this stuff! So so glad I've asked! I will try, but probably not onto my scroll thing, because its pretty thin one.
I have few sheets of cotton rag left - that should do, right?
Sounds nice:)
Or even re-discover them after decade or two:)
You're most welcome! Yes, try it out first on a low investment/low emotional attachment surface. I've used masking fluid on mixed media sketch paper, cheap watercolor paper and on Arches watercolor paper. See what works best for you and your process!
Yeah! It's kind of surreal to come back to old "forgotten" works from your past. 😊 See you around, Strega!
Thank you very much!
