Hello everyone! Today I am going to share about a drawing I did today. It is a drawing of a cool cat wearing a pair of sunglasses. Unlike usual, I only used 6 colour pencils for this drawing instead of more. I wanted to see if I can keep it simple and make the most out of just a few colours. However, I did pick bright colours which are pink, blue, purple, orange, yellow and golden brown.
I kind of missed using these colour pencils for drawing alone. I used to draw a lot straight with the colours when I was younger. I wouldn't think much back then and just draw randomly, mindlessly as well. I wanted to do something similar this time without the pressure of making it a perfect looking artwork and just kept it simple.
Tools and Materials
- a sketchbook page
- a HB pencil
- colour pencils
- a dust free eraser
The Process
I drew the basic outline of the cat and after some eraser shavings, I got to a decent looking chubby cat.
This is the final pencil drawing of the cat. I did some subtle dabbing on the whole drawing using my eraser to minimize the visibility of the pencil drawing so the colours will look more obvious.
The first colour I chose to draw with is blue. I added it almost everywhere.
Then, I added some pink here and there.
The next colour I used is purple. I used this particularly for shadows. Usually I use dark brown for that but not this time.
I added more blue colour here to cover some of the fur of the kitty. I played around with the other colours as well and included more pink and a subtle amount of orange.
I used yellow for the frame of the sunglasses so that it stands out and brings the focus to it.
Here I have build the colours a little more by layering them and blending them with each other so I can make the cat more colourful.
I used purple for the lens of the sunglasses as it is the darkest colour. I used pink for some highlights. I wanted to call this artwork done but I felt like something was lacking.
I coloured the table in golden brown, followed by some yellow for the center areas. I think adding yellow to the table the kitty is holding onto brought a new level of brightness and charm to the artwork. I am so glad I did this.
Finally, I drew some starts all around the cat to make him look 'cooler'. Actually, the real reason is to cover more of the blank space :D This is the final outcome.
This is the completed drawing with all the colours I used next to my sketchbook.
Thank you for dropping by and I wish that you have a wonderful day ahead =)
Love the heart shape glasses 😻
Thank you 😊
