Back in February I was itching to get out and shoot the Milkyway. Unfortunately living in a city means like most of us I have to deal with light pollution. Luckily I live very close to a dark zone. There is a small lake about two hours south east of where I live with very dark skies. I would say some of the darkest skies in Canada. Although it was still very early in the Milkway season I decide the best plan of attack was to camp over night on the lake allowing me to get a good sleep before waking up at 5:00 am to catch the core rising. The other alternative was to drive out early in the morning but I wasn't a fan of that.
Yes, I decide to go camping in a place pretty darn similar place to the Arctic. Some said I was crazy and yes they have a good point. Camping can be difficult at the best of times but add in negative 18-degree weather and that is a whole new challenge. But I love photographing the stars. It truly amazes me that I Aaron just a pretty normal dude can go out a photograph stars that are light-years away. I want to capture the emotions that I have out in the wilderness and share it with you lot, that is was pushes me to go and explore!
