Laufenburg is located in the Aargau Jura, Switzerland south of the Rhine River.
In 1802 Napoleon ceded the Fricktal to the Helvetic Republic, called Canton Fricktal. However, as early as 1803 the Fricktal was assigned to the newly founded Canton of Aargau and with the Rhine, formed the national border to Germany.
The Wasen gate Laufenburg built around 1270, from the middle ages was 1831-1985 a city prison.
Here at the top, the ruins of Laufenburg, the tower measures about 8.40 metres square and is supported by walls up to 3 metres large
and a view from the top window.
