hello Yes, Banda Aceh was one of the tsunami affected, but not just Banda. There were 3 places in Aceh that were affected by the tsunami in 2004. The districts of Simeulu, Meulaboh, and Banda Aceh. but the most dead victims were in banda aceh. with a total of 227k inhabitants. it happened Sunday morning, many people were still sleeping. and most of the dead are children.
and I think there are still victims that have not been found yet. because about 3 months ago, there was an empty house. in it there are dozens of human skeletons that have been buried in the ground. nobody knows that. when it came to demolition to demolish the house, with the aim of wanting to open the project, it turned out that there was still a human skeleton buried in the house. in total there are 17 human skeletons.
many things were done by the government at that time. from repairing facilities, providing assistance in the form of homes for people who have lost their homes, food, health, and mental recovery for children who survived. yes, they were mentally destroyed at that time. and lots of other help. but all problems are quickly resolved. because Aceh not only gets help from within the country, but also can get help from abroad. there are dozens of countries that help. including big actors like Jackie Chan. he donated aid and came to Aceh to see it directly.
Aceh is now back to normal. the tsunami was made as an extraordinary history. and every December 26, in all regions Aceh must commemorate tsunami day.
It was a terrible situation. I recall hearing about it that day back in 2004 and at first barely believing my ears. Over the next few days the numbers started rolling out, the extent of the damage and of course the deaths. Mind-boggling.
A year later my wife and I travelled to Phuket for a holiday. We almost went somewhere else because of the Tsunami and we figured things would be still recovering but we decided to go and were so pleased we did. The people were very happy to see us (and our dollars) and always thanked us for coming there. We had an amazing holiday.
We stayed at the Novotel overlooking the beach that was hit, walked the streets there and could see the high-water mark on the buildings above us. Simply frightening.
Anyway, I'me pleased to hear you guys commemorate it, as you should. It was such a momentous event and whist it brought much misery also brought amazing stories of survival, endurance, bravery, charity and heroism. It's tough to come back from such a terrible situation but am pleased to hear you guys have pushed on.
thank you, hopefully the tsunami will not happen again. it was very scary for us.
something very funny happened. after a tsunami, the government provides an alarm to show signs of a tsunami. in short when a tsunami occurs, the alarm will sound. alarm sound can reach the whole city of banda aceh.
but what happened in 2012, the alarm went off without a cause. everyone ran away scared, apparently there was a technical error in it. when it was very annoying. make people cry and get scared.
Yes, hopefully it doesn't occur again although it is good that they have the alarm to sound if it does. I can imagine how annoyed people got when it went off due to technical difficulty. Still, I think I'd be running away every time it went off rather than taking the risk. Do they test the alarm at regular intervals and do you have designated evacuation routes?
Yes, our family has discussed the route for evacuation. we discussed the meeting point when the tsunami occurred. because when the tsunami happened, certainly not all family members together. in Indonesia, especially the province of Aceh is very vulnerable to disasters. Because Aceh is the last island in Indonesia. so there are many earth plates. here frequent earthquakes, landslides, floods, and many others. but behind it all, Aceh is a very beautiful island. here are hundreds of tours. and soon I will make a post about Lampu'uk beach tourism. you can see it later.
It's smart to have a plan of escape and a meeting point for the family members to gather. I'm sure it's a nice place to visit and I'm looking forward to your post.
Thank you for your compliment. I just showed the post.
Ah yes, I just saw it. Nice looking beach
