DIFFICULT DECISIONS - Should I stay or should I go?

in OCD5 years ago

Yesterday threw me a quarantine quandary, Cathay Pacific re-booked my flights. Here's my situation, i'm from the UK but spend most of my time in the Philippines and generally go back to the UK once a year to deal with property and tenants I have there. About 2 months back amid all of the recent turmoil Cathay cancelled my flights, I was due to go back end of May. Since that time the UK corona situation has gotten pretty bad with currently over 20,000 deaths and looking like nothing will change for the better for a while.

Cathay gave me no choice but to accept these flights in early July, it was a case of take them or loose them. Here my dilemma becomes many fold, currently I am in southern Cebu with no covid 19 cases, to fly out I will have to travel to Cebu city where there are a lot of cases and growing every day, I will then take 2 plane journeys Cebu - Hong Kong -Hong Kong - London, this putting me in contact with many strangers, a daunting thought after weeks of isolation. Then when getting to the UK i'll be stepping into a hotbed of infection, once I get to my final destination things won't be too bad as I will be in a rural area away from most people and in a part of the UK that currently has very few cases. So I will leave a area of zero infection and finish in a area of very low infection its just everything in between that is a worry. Its such a difficult decision to make I have commitments to my tenants and try to be a responsible landlord, also I have other pressing matters to deal with while in the UK. I am struggling to decide if it is the right move to leave here, this is where i'm currently doing my quarantine.

Adding to my issue is the worry of if I go back to the UK will the Philippine government allow flights coming back the other way. I could get stuck in the UK having to pay for a property I can't use here in Cebu. My train of thought on this is if they are flying out then they will probably be flying back in but with things changing daily who knows what the situation will be. Getting stuck back in England wouldn't be awful as said I have things to do and it is a stunning place where I live there.

The next few weeks are going to be a test for me, its a choice between doing whats right for others in the UK against what feels right for me. Two months could see a lot of change and there is every chance that my flights could get cancelled again so for now its hold tight and hope for the best!

Be safe out there folks.

I hope everything works out fine with your travels bro!
Stay safe too!
Sorry for not upvoting, my voting power is very low at the moment!
Much love bro!

Thank bud, a few weeks ahead of me to make a final decision on what I do, i'm leaning towards staying put but lets see what happens.

If you insisted to take that cancelled flight, you'll have to undergo 14 days of quarantine in UK. And if permitted to go back to your home in Cebu, that's another 14 days of quarantine. Things getting worst day by day but not totally in Cebu, just be safe.

Thanks dude, as I am in quarantine at the moment it won't make much difference, for me its more the possibility of getting infected while traveling. You be safe also.

We have been warned since childhood that a day will come when we shall have to make some tough decisions. And I guess your time has come!

But after reading your post I feel you should stay put, as you could be the carrier of the virus to a 'less' affected part of Britian, especially when they haven't found a cure as yet! (Just my two cents!)

If I go back to the UK the risk is more for me being infected rather than me infecting, I have already spent 6 weeks in quarantine and would also go into quarantine in the UK on my return. As mentioned I would be in isolation in a rural area with no neighbours for a couple of miles.

I can only say that you are lucky! You live in beautiful places... Take care, my friend!

Thanks, lucky I am indeed, be safe.
