The movement "The Beach Rejuvenation Army" was founded by two youths, Damodar Hegde and Ganesh Mulky and now this Army has nearly 100+ volunteers in doing community service by cleaning this particular beach called Tannir Bavi every single day.
I joined hands with them one their third day. I got to know about this through Instagram. I used to travel half way through bus to reach the city and Damodar would pick me up and we'd go to beach by 6 AM in the morning.
We would segregate trash at beach. Discarded plastic bottles, slippers and other plastic items are filled in plastic bags and kept at the parking area for the waste collecting agencies to come and haul them away. The wooden logs and coconuts which were found are moved to a side of the beach. We managed to move several heavy waste deposits created after waste material got entwined on discarded long ropes from the fishing boats.
This is Damodar Hegde one of the founders of the Beach Rejuvenation Army. It took a good 20 minutes to clear out the sand from the side of the tires only to find out that there was 2 more tyres buried beneath the sand. Thats when we called in the big guns ie; Damodar.
Segregation of waste is being done in a systematic manner and we have follow ups which is being monitored. There were many who turned up to raise monetary support as they could not be physically present for the cause and this money being generated has been used in buying protective gear such as sturdy gloves to handle glass wastes, Shovels, Spades and Sifters to separate the sand from the waste.
Some glass wastes like glass bottles are being preserved for the reuse of the same into pieces of art. We've given off quite a few of these bottles to a few artists to be repurposed and they've turned them into magnificent pieces of art.
Every day’s routine starts with reporting at 6:30 am and after that the general instructions and days plan is given out, they carry on the cleaning and segregation work for about an hour or half an hour extra.
Every day there will be some thing or the other to take away, The piece of lesson for the day not from any one but self experience at the beach, which made many volunteers to re-post their efforts and feel satisfied about their self and team and to inspire others.
This was just another regular Sunday spent at the beach doing something noble to keep the beaches off Mangalore clean. You can find my in the red T-Shirt and the green bandana sitting in the front row.
This is just 5% of the trash visible in the image as the rest of it scattered in various collection spots. We have 100's of alcohol bottles, 1000's of slippers and shoes (One Could Start A Small Shoe Store With Them LOL), You have a good number of Dispovan Syringes and Insulin Syringes left by the country's honourable junkies and millions of plastic water bottles and other plastic items.
It's really sad to see that humanity itself will one day end this beautiful world we live in and hopefully i'll be dead by then watching over them and saying I Told You So!!
Thats all for today folks I hope you enjoyed reading this have a great day!!

You're welcome.
We do this at Frogtown (McLeods Bay), not so much as a community project but simply because we love our little beach and don't like seeing trash on it. Keep up the good work. 👍
