They stayed in the same neighborhood since they were kids...they went to the same school, the same church and even often bumped into each other at groceries stores. Every morning he would wake up so early so he could watch her as she leave for work before he goes on his way. Dex did this for years, always walking in the shadows, looking at her from his window, waiting at the bus stop to see her leave for work and all.
"I have been in love with her for so long now, but I don't have the courage to tell her how I feel about her" Dex said to himself. "How would I tell her? What if I am not good enough for her? What if she rejects me?" Dex has been in love with her for so long now but didn't have the courage to walk up to her...not even to say hi. Carrying this burden of love year after year as she grew into a woman...yet he still couldn't man up about his feelings to her. "there is still time, I would tell her but not now" he would always say.
On this particular morning Dex decided he was going to talk to her....he has had enough of watching her front the window every morning now he wanted more. "Today is the day", he said as he smiled looking at himself in the mirror..."I am going to tell her how I feel about her, I just hope she likes me too". He dressed up so well and went to get his love.
As usual he got to the bus stop first and waited for her...few minutes later he saw her walking towards the stop. So he walked up to her, "Hi", he said to her..."Hello Dex" she said..."You know my name?..I mean you actually know my name", Dex said feeling so excited. "Actually I am running late for work, we could have dinner", she said to him. Dex was shocked, things was going better than he expected, "yes!" he blurted out "I can do dinner"...just like that dinner date was set.
Sitting at the dinner table Dex couldn't stop staring at her, he was happy and confident that the night was going to favour him. "There is something I have been wanting to tell you for quite a while now", he said..."Talk to me".
"I like you, have had this feelings for you for quite sometime now but didn't know how to tell you. I can't keep it any longer...I love you Maya" he said as he finally called her by her name. "You do? You have feelings for me? How come you never told me? Oh my! Dex, I also liked you...I wanted you...I wished and dreamt that you would say this words to me", Maya said shaking her head. "I am saying it now Maya, we can still..", "You are too late" Maya interrupted, "I am getting married in a week!".
Dex freezes...because at that moment he realised he has lost.
Time waits for no man, goes a particular saying. If you love someone, walk up to them and tell them how you feel...easier said than done right? Yeah I know. Most people tend to fear being rejected, what if she/he rejects me? and that is understandable to but then if you never tried how would you know...so first you'd have to try.
Not just in relationship matters now, if you want something out of life you need to work towards getting that thing, no procrastination, not being negative about the out come yet keeping your mind open in case you get disappointed...face that thing squarely. Go for it, if you get it then it is to your advantage and if not either you try again or you learn something from it.
You are not the only one who wants the pretty lady next door or that thing (whatever it may be for you), so don't waste time by procrastinating...go for it.
