Man, time flies, it's gonna be 4 years for me this August - it's crazy. Had to check it on hive block explorer to make sure, lol. You're own memos made me recall my own events here and especially with other Hiveians, painfully nostalgic yet happy memories indeed.
I think with people leaving it comes down to false expectations: it was supposed to be this new revolutionary platform, it still is, just that it hasn't really made its breakthrough to the wider audience yet. I think some people just got bored, impatient. But what Hive represents, the values behind - freedom of speech, full ownership of data - I keep valuable. There's not another place on the internet that provides true ownership of online identity, just for that reason there's simply no leaving from here. Those who have gone, probably didn't hold those values, so boredom gets to them, and they forget what the point here was in the first place.
