Everyone, I mean, even the greatest writers have had to deal with this.
So what do you do when your imaginary friends won’t talk to you...when you have the writer’s block?
First things first, have you identified your audience? You must know your readers, this would help you understand what and how to write. If you still have difficulties with ideas, here are a few tips you should try or improve on;
You would agree with me that #hive has been the right companion, especially during this Pandemic. I personally enjoy reading through the creativity in my feed and the interaction in the comment section.
Sleep
Research has shown that Sleep affects positively or negatively, our mental and physical health. Good sleep is one of the most vital requirements for sound health. Having concentration problems? You might just need a couple of minutes or hours shut eye. Sleep and rest your brain. My mum would say “let your blood flow well” lol. You would wake up energized and with many great ideas
Meditate
Meditation is the ability to leave your present environment to a much calmer, peaceful place, in your mind. It helps you focus better, gives you clarity, by unclogging your mind. It is an ability which means it requires maximum concentration. Meditation has been used since time immemorial, to help realign ones focus. You could lay in bed, sit in a chair, take yoga poses, etc. Lots of developers have produced Meditation apps that help you concentrate, like Headspace, Calm, Insight Timer and so much more.
Do this and come back to your preferred community on #hive and see.
Music
This is my personal go-to. Music, for many, is very helpful in calming the brain and nerves; I mean soothing, good music. The tune, melody, the lyrics are practically ‘traditional healers’. Here are some of my favorite songs;
God Bless the Internet - Saint Jhn
Silhouette - Birdy
Cudi Montage - Kanye
Oleku - Ice Prince
Switch - 6Lack
Dopamine - Bas
Walk on Water - Eminem
Let it all Work Out - Lil Wayne
Lost Ones - JCole
Spiritual Healing- 2face
Change Your Environment
Your immediate surroundings has everything to do with your creativity and concentration. Take a walk, go elsewhere, get inspiration from the walkway, the streets, the beach, the cafe, friends’ hangout, a game zone, etc. Leave your space for a bit, when it gets crazy in your head. Your sense of creativity will thank you!
PS; That’s me in the beach picture. I personally find the beach very calming. I always have amazing ideas there. The serenity, the wind, the birds chirping, the trees, all of that Nature help gather my thoughts.
Scribble
Your thoughts are very unorganized? Just write them down. Do not bother about organization, structure, vocabulary or any of those writing skills. When you have gotten your thoughts together, all you need to do is reviews and corrections.
Scribbling helps you retain those ideas that pop up in your mind. You should write them down because you might not get them again, or at least when you need them.
I personally go to my selected #hive community and scribble, and it all comes together.
Additional Tip; Drink lots of water. Infused water is great for the brain...water with lemon slices, cucumber slices or few drops of honey.
A cup of Green Tea is a great way to start the day, too.
Change your fonts and writing styles, print it out and read aloud
*Go through communities in #hive, read posts and interact with people. This is a great learning space and you get exposed to different ideas just by being on the app.
How do you deal with writer’s block on #hive or any other platform?
