It was a beautiful bright Tuesday morning, Fola was all set and ready to go to the nearest Cafe in town which cost nothing less that 500naira to and fro as a result of of living in the outskirts of the city. She was all giddy and happy to register for her NYSC, her stomach was filled with butterflies, such an unexplainable joy.
"So I'm going to be a corper soon" she mused to herself and smiled. Fola! Fola!! Fola!!! *" Yes mama! " Are you still daydreaming? When do you plan on registering for your NYSC?"
Sorry mama, I'm leaving now, shouted Fola.
Fola left for the Cafe as early as 7am and had to wait for the Cafe attendant to open the shop by 9am. She took her passport, registered for the NYSC, picked Kwara and three other Northern states while she prayed and was hopeful to be deployed to Kwara because she wanted to stay close to her mother.
Grrrm! Grmmmmm!! Grmmmmmmm!!! Rang Fola's phone, it was her course mate Happiness calling her at the wee hour of the morning, the cock is yet to crow even the day is yet to break; waking her from her restful beauty sleep.
"Hello Happiness, I am still sleeping why call so early? can't you at least wait for the day to break? " said Fola in a very irritated and disgruntled tone. Happiness disregarding Fola's uninteresting tone shouted with excitement, "Babe, go and check your dashboard; we've been deployed. Have been posted to Kaduna, can't wait to leave, I pray they also post you to Kaduna."
Fola mustered all the strength in her and shouted, *"May the gods forbid, your evil plan will not work" Happiness could no longer hide the laughter she has be stifling as she knows how much those northern states scares Fola.
After her interesting conversation with Happiness, Fola summoned up courage, picked her laptop, logged in to her dashboard and checked where she was deployed to. What greeted her face made her freeze, Congratulations you've been deployed to Rivers State "how come? But I never picked Rivers State? How did it happen? What manner of trick is this?" She was dumbfounded and never heard her mother calling out to her not until she was touched, "Fola why do you look like a lost puppy?" "Mum, I was posted to South South, Rivers to be precise" replied Fola. "But you never picked South South now so how come?" Said Fola's mum. "Well, that's how I also saw it oh," "I believe we'll be fine; let God's will be done" replied Fola's mum.
