Welcome to Hive! It's definitely a place full of lots of great people and communities. There is so much on here that people who have been here for years haven't even discovered, so there's something for everybody!
As some others have said, communities are an excellent way to get to know people. Visiting a community and posting in it are good but the far more important thing is getting to know people and interacting with them in the comments of theirs and others posts. Comments are the best way to grow an account and gain followers. If we all spend more time commenting than posting, the entire blockchain thrives and more people get interested!
Another fun community is one I started. Anything goes here, it's not specific to anything so if you're feeling like you want to talk about random things, drop it in here! It's called Rant, Complain, Talk. Anything and everything can go in there!
