Well hello, stranger
It's been a long week! How do we deal with that? We go on work adventures to get donuts π©.
Like the sign states, "Donut worry be happy". See donuts bring happiness! π
Our department works on block week schedules, meaning that every 3-4 weeks we have two week classes from 8 in the morning to 6 in the evening. We accommodate both honours and masters so we usually end up with 4 packed weeks of class. On top of that, we have short learning programs that also run for a week every 2 months, from 8 in the morning to 6 in the evening, including Saturday.
With the time crunch of our campus starting a bit late this year we ended up with 8 consecutive weeks packed with classes. I know people are gonna tell me "two months of lecturing can't be that bad, others do it non stop the entire year". Keep in mind that my main job is not only lecturing. My main job is research and my PhD. So it's not the lecturing that tired me out these past months, but rather not having time for research and then working over hours to keep up with the research.
And also people... Having 50+ students around for 8 weeks nonstop requires a lot of smiling, and assistance and takes away all your quiet time π.
I was having a short coffee break after our last class for the week and mentioned a donut shop to my co-worker. Instantly he started to smile like Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland.
"Ninja, do you wanna go get donuts?"
"NOW?!" I asked
"Yis"
As soon as he spoke those words, a happy voice could be heard from the office next door. Within seconds Sips popped into his office with her purse ready to go... At this point, we couldn't say no... We gather the others and wrote down a list for those who did not wish to adventure with us. We picked a lucky driver, Mr T, and set off on our adventure!!
We made our way to the new donut shop that opened about a month ago: Glazed.
The shop is quite small and decorated in many different styles of donuts. It's also orange... Not my favourite but hey, you can't miss this place!
Even the lights are donuts!!
Please enjoy all the different donut lights with me π. I found quite a lot of joy in this detail π©.
After a long debate of what to get and discussion on what looks the best... We still haven't made a decision π. We placed orders for those who did not join us and continued our debate.
Cheesecake donuts are usually my favourite next to normal cinnamon donuts. I'm not a fan of glazed donuts, they are usually too sweet and sticky. Donuts should also be fluffy and not cake-like. I know some shops like Krispy Cream have a more cake-like texture, but I prefer the fluffy and light texture
I was trying to pick between the cheesecake and the oreo. In the end, I went with the cheesecake since they have a special: 1 super premium donut with 2 cinnamon donuts for R30 ($2). And we had to get 4 cinnamon donuts, so it was a smart option.
We secured the goods and made sure everyone got what they requested, or somewhat close to what they wanted. A few with nuts, a few plain cinnamon donuts, caramel, chocolate, mint and cheesecake. We ended up with 20 donuts, as some people wanted more than one.
Just a few of the selections that we ended up with. Some of us are very plain and prefer cinnamon while others like glazed donuts.
I really enjoyed this cheesecake donut. It was real baked cheesecake and not fridge cheesecake. It had a strawberry jam filling and was stuffed with cheesecake. I was afraid that it would not be enough, for at times these types of donuts lack filling and taste. I was very pleased with the taste and texture and it did in fact solve a few people of the week!
Thank you for stopping by to join in on our adventures at work, or should I rather say adventures away from work π. Sometimes these types of days are nesaccery to gather your thoughts again for the next week to come. I hope you had a wonderful week! Until next time, stay happy!
