Colorado River, Acrylic on Paper, 2016
The very first thing I painted when I arrived in Arizona. The Colorado River kinda took me by surprise honestly. I was just driving through and bam, there it was. Like any good tourist, I stopped and checked it out.
I had never seen anything like it, a green snaking path of water cutting right through the desert. After so much brown and red, the green was a shock to my eyes. I was extremely impressed with the canyon that it cut through the red rock. The Grand Canyon itself, located just a bit up this same river, was not something I was yet acquainted with.
I don’t know if I quite captured the scale of it here, or the colors. But in person it was definitely a beautiful sight. Not Grand Canyon beautiful, but still beautiful.
Here are some pictures I took while being a goobery tourist, the first one is the one the painting is done from, sort of:
Me being a dork:
The Navajo Bridge, which just kind of comes up out of nowhere along the drive, from which I took all my photos:
I’m posting every painting I have ever done from 2014 to the present, the good, the bad, and the ugly. With an occasional photograph or sketch thrown in just to mix things up. Check back daily to see my progression as an “artist”!
