I have taken these bulbs with me when I left home, out to set the world on fire, or at the very least, make my own place. I have planted them in every house, rented and bought, and even put them in a pot in my apartment in Italy. I let them multiply and divide. Every single year.

For some reason that line has struck me. We need to exude happiness so that others can feel it too, if only for a second, if only a brief glace at an impossibly cheerful flower.

And you are quite right. One cannot force happiness to happen. BUT, one can always choose to be happy regardless the circumstances. It's not about counting what you don't have but appreciating what you do. Great post!
I love this picture! I always think of those flowers coming out of the rocks or blooming in crazy places.
You cant force happiness, but, you can choose to be happy or as happy as you can manage. I agree that it is not what you don't have, just appreciate all that you have.
