[Re-IntroduceYourself] emrebeyler

Hey HIVE people,

This is a re-introduction post of me.

It's Emre. Around 32 years ago, I've born in a city called "Safranbolu" in Turkey.

A view of Safranbolu

I currently live in Utrecht/Netherlands at the moment. Moved to the Netherlands last year (almost one year ago) by accepting a job offer.

I am a software engineer w/ ten years of experience. Most of my experience consists of web development. I'm working on embedded systems at the moment, though.

I really like Python as a programming language, even though professionally, I have worked w/ a lot of languages like Java, Golang, PHP. That "love" effects most of my open-source work, you can see that I've lots of Python projects in my Github profile.

Already missed bicycling in good weather. Not possible recently.

Fun Facts

  • I've spent more than 1k hours playing Starcraft2. (No, I am not proud of this, but if you're up for some games, add me at battle.net: emre#2937)

  • I started my career as a self-taught programmer. My bachelor is the Turkish language. I've had a master's degree in Information Technologies years later.

  • I've visited more than 30 countries for sightseeing purposes. The current corona lockdown really hurts that figure. It seems like traveling became a habit of mine in the time. Here is a very scientific image that maps my visits:

  • I am an active oldchain/HIVE witness more than two years. Survived multiple hard forks. I was a consensus witness before the chain split.

You're a follower of mine in recent years and curious about something? Ask in the comments.

Looking forward to your new projects on HIVE, Emre!

İyi şanslar!

Tesekkurler!

From what I read in this article, our current crisis leads toward a NWO – a new world order / a world of total control.
I have a hunch: free people can't be controlled.
What do you want: to be a slave or to be free?
Our challenge is to prevent dark times that mostly are already a reality.

  • Are you tough enough to accept our challenge?

I am curious about everything concerning Hive including upvotes and everything

One of the first things I did in Steem (years ago), was a shitty commit in your awesome steem.rocks, that encouraged me to participate in other projects, like Utopian. Thanks for that.
I'm happy to see how many things you did these years. :)

Hahahah, yes, that was a long time ago. I remember it. :) Good times.

Glad to know more about you.

How easy/difficult was it when you started learning programming by yourself? How did you cope?

How easy/difficult was it when you started learning programming by yourself? How did you cope?

That was in my teenage years. It was hard in some aspects since my English was shit and I didn't have any good internet connection at that time. But I had this never-ending energy to progress. :)

How did I cope? There was nothing to cope with. I was just curious about building things. Started with doing small, lame projects. The sense of accomplishment was very good.

That's huge determination. I respect you plus 1 more. Thanks for the response. Looking forward to becoming a great programmer as I proceed with my self teaching too. You just inspired me.

I see, you‘ve been the DPoll guy, now I know you a little. I wasted most of my time on wc3 and I’m still watching some streams here and there. What‘s your sc2 skill level?

I was "Master" on my peak on the ladder. But not playing competitively for a long time, just playing it for fun from time to time. I cannot find time like the old times.

Master, you can play 1v5 against Hive noobs :p

holy crap 10,000 hours.

Have you heard of Malcolm Gladwell's 10,000 rule?

He claims if you put 10,000 hours into anything, you can become world-class at it.

Oh my, fixed. It's 1k hours. I don't think it's possible to play 10k hours if you're not doing it pro. :)

Actually, Blizzard doesn't give you that metric but I have 7624 career games, which maps to 1k hours approx if you take an average game as 7-8 mins.

I haven't played SC2, just the original with the Brood War expansion.

Broodwar is the legend. :)
