As the saying goes, “knowledge is power”. By simply improving literacy and math skills, kids build the foundation necessary to succeed in life.
Educated kids learn how to ask questions and challenge unhealthy norms. They can help provide solutions to the problems in their own communities and beyond. Learning about other cultures helps promote understanding and acceptance toward other people groups, creating a generation of peacemakers.
Uganda as my country and Africa at large is a continent where parents will do anything to ensure their children have the best Education possible.
In Africa, Education is believed to be the best or only portal to a better future, but for many children in poverty access to quality Education is a distant dream as limited access to quality Education can severely limit a child's potential and perpetuate the cycle of poverty. However a child's parents may not have attended school but will always strive hard to always give their children the assistance they deserve to succeed in school.
The problem is that when a family is very poor, the parents may feel they have to send their children to work rather than attend school.
For many, this choice is the only way they can afford to put food on the table and cover other crucial daily needs, as well as save up money for Education, an issue not common to families with higher incomes.
Another challenge is that girls who are denied a quality Education are more likely to marry at a young age and become victimized or enslaved in these early marriages as in higher cases they always end up getting married to men who are way older than them and in most cases they can be twice older.
Melanin popping, confidence on fleek. Black beauty is timeless and effortlessly stunning.
Simply Bold and beautiful.
That’s why here in Africa a parent will put aside their own personal needs to do everything possible to ensure the children remain in school even if it means sacrificing their own health needs by working in very risky or dangerous jobs with increased or more hours to remove inequalities defined by a income poverty line, and opening up a world of opportunity and possibility to their children.
A parent will put on torn or ripped and very old clothes and prevent spending money to buy new clothes for themselves to make sure their children have enough money to go to school as well as take care of all the necessities to ensure they remain in school and have access to the best Education possible.
In the end it’s truly worth it because first of all, education bridges the genda gap this is because Educated girls benefit communities because they make healthier choices, pursue careers before marriage and have fewer children. They can teach their families better lifestyle options, setting the next generation up for future success. By striving for Education for both there’s equity in education, girls can be given a chance to thrive in communities where they have been marginalized.
Education is a major component to fighting poverty in Africa, together with parents adequate support undoubtedly helps break down the barriers that prevent children from receiving an education. From tutoring, health care, purchasing school supplies and uniforms, and other supplementary educational benefits, they work hard to ensure that children have access to the tools they need to minimize the impact of poverty in their lives.
Indeed in Africa when it comes to Education, parents are true SUPER HEROES.
There’s more to come until next time, thanks for stopping by.
