For the past couple of weeks I've been working on putting together a list with some of the niche communities we have on Hive as I think it is needed. For a couple of months I've been advising users posting in OCD community, on what community their post would fit in better and had to realize there's a lot of confusion about where to post and mostly why. Most of the users were happy to get some guidance and learn, but there were some frustrated, even angry. Then some of you have asked me what kind of topics you can post in OCD, which clearly indicates that the community guidelines are not clear or are ignored hoping to get curated, as well as the role of communities is not understood.
Many remember OCD community being a general community for original content, which used to mean you could post there any topic you liked, as long as it was original content. Things have changed and for quite some time OCD is not a general community anymore, but a community for topics that don't fit in any other niche community.
OCD, the curation project has been focusing on helping niche communities to grow. In order to do that, the Community Incubation Program was launched as soon as communities were implemented on our chain. This way the OCD community rules have changed, the community is no longer a general community and you should use it only if you don't find a niche community for your topic.
Sometimes chasing big upvotes seems to be more important than maintaining structure and contributing to building a better platform for ourselves. It's easier to drop your post in any community without reading the rules or making a small effort in order to get familiar with the communities we have on Hive and understand why it is important to find the right one. The community structure we have on Hive is very similar to any structure in life. I bet you don't put your dirty boots in the fridge next to food and when you want a clean shirt, you don't look for it in the kitchen cabinet as you know it's in the wardrobe, where it belongs. Online shopping platforms have categories for each group of products, to help you find what you are looking for easier. So why should Hive be different?

Hive is our platform and it is our responsibility to keep it clean and help it grow, to be the best blockchain platform. This is why your first priority should be finding the best niche community for your topic. By doing that, you can find the right audience for your topic, which can bring you not only support, but potential followers as well, which, eventually will lead to growth. We're still at the beginning as Hive is barely two years old on its own, the road is long and looking at the bigger picture, instead of your own short term gains should be more important.
If you're still not convinced why you should be looking for the right niche community, instead of insisting on posting in OCD, here's something you may not know.
As I said at the beginning of my post, for the past couple of weeks I've been working on putting together a list with some of the existing niche communities, to help you navigate better on Hive. This is not a complete list as we have so many communities, but it will help you get started.
Some of the communities are part of the incubation program, others are not, but that doesn't mean you have to avoid them as OCD curators are canvasing Hive and curating other niche communities as well, not just those that are incubated. So if your post is in the right community and meets the requirements, you have a chance to be curated, while posting in OCD repeatedly, ignoring our warnings and recommendations can get you muted. Once you posted in the right community, you can then cross-post your post in OCD community.
Some of the communities are dead and may be the cause of so many of you avoiding them. However, in the meantime, topics that belong to these communities are spread in other communities, where may not belong. It would need a little effort, maybe 5 users, or even less would be enough to resuscitate a dead community and get it going. Once a community starts growing, there's a chance of being incubated and get supported by OCD.
Please note, this list has been put together to guide you, not to decide for you. Please go to each community, read the rules and decide if it's really the right community for your topic as you're the only one who knows what your post is about. The responsibility is yours. Also please be aware that rules can change all the time, so better always check before you post.

If you're a newbie, you may want to check out these guides:
You left out the Movies & TV Shows community (hive-166847).
Yes and I said the list does not have all the communities.

Glad I found this cause I needed it badly to know the communities available.
You can also use PeakD search to see the whole list of communities available, as there is more.
Thanks and I will do that.
Smiles.. I can relate 😃
Dropping your work into the right community will give you the upper advatage when it comes to the audience of what you've written and discuss. This is an informative guide for the likes if me , a newbie.
With this one I saw that there's a lot of communities for me too..Gonna check them ..
thank you for this one.😊
I agree, dropping your post in the right community can bring you a lot of advantages both short and long term.
You're welcome and I hope you can find a few communities that you like and help you grow in the future.
Thank you @erikah, a great guide for new Hivers stumbling in the dark not knowing where they belong; also very useful for our more seasoned bloggers!
My pleasure and thank you @lizelle for helping me in this 😃
This is really informative
Cause I can really count the number of communities I've posted to since I joined Hive... But when it comes to communicating and socialising I do very great
But another cause for most people over looking at some community is because allot of voters really do not look into quality posts of ours (newbies) and in the end makes some of us to focus on communities that may bring a little return ... It's not Ideal though, but the reward is also part of the reason some of us joined this platform, and if barely gotten, one has to do something about it
But I'll see how to focus more on allot of communities. Thanks for the information
If you post in communities respecting the rules, it is not a problem. But disregarding rules, posting in the wrong community hoping to get a vote is wrong.
Oh oh okay, if that's what was meant I get it clear now
Well I guess I've not deliberately posted wrongly in any group though
But I remember making a mistake back then, but my mentor corrected me and since then I haven't made such... We just hope to do more, thanks once again you guys are amazing here on the blog
It happens to all of us to make mistakes, misunderstand the description or the rules, so it's ok. The problem is with those who after many suggestions, explanations and recommendations keep making the same "mistake" 😀
This is why some communities are muting users so fast.
Oh okay , the block head humans
I can relate 😁😁
Greetings @erikah
This is a great compilation and a helpful list. This is a list that cannot be forgotten in a hurry and one that should be archived for reference purpose.
Definitely, newer communities will emerge on Hive, and some old ones may go into extinction, however this list will serve as a guide for those who find it difficult to identify their desired niche.
I can imagine how stressful this was for you. Making a compilation post or compilation post of contests list (which I do) is really stressful. I can't imagine the stress you went through: thinking through and identifying different niches, creating a table and searching through communities to place them accordingly, copying the community name and embedding the community link.
You deserve an Oscar Award for the stress. 😁
This is my way of telling you Thank You, Thank you and Thank you 😁
It wasn't stressful but it took a lot of time as I had to read each and every community's rules and descriptions listed here. Not to mention the formatting. But that doesn't matter as some can only see what's not on the list 🙂
You're welcome and I hope it helps.
People tend to see things differently: many people see things only from the perspective that is beneficial to them or what they do, and only a few can get the clearer picture of things objectively.
In this case, there are different categories of people:
People's unnecessary reactions and expressed anxiety shouldn't deter us from doing what is right and helpful for people. I believe this post sits right with those who intend to grow on Hive, and that is the purpose of the post.
So, YES!
It fulfils its purpose amidst people's unrelated criticisms.
Well, on my own part, I understand, to an extent, the placement of niches and the best communities to make your post (based on your niche), following the rules of each communities. However, learning and growth is continuous.
Kudos to the work put in this compilation. I appreciate the efforts made to make us know the reason why posting in the right communities matter. I have always preached about the same thing but having these written down makes it easier to preach more to newbies and others on which community to publish in. This article is totally worth Gold 🥇🥇🥇.
Thank you and thanks for contributing to helping newbies start their journey. I have a few guides put together, if you need more help for the newbies. The truth is the chain is as strong as the weakest link, so it's our job to help those who need guidance.
Yeah! How about making a collection of these guys on peakd and pin them to your post or create a special tag for these posts. So I would know just the tag to go through when looking for these posts.
Also, hope all is well, just got an unfollow notification from you 🥲
So far I'm posting these links as a footer under each post, so those who are reading my post can see them. I can't pin them as there's only one pinning option and I used that for the "communities explained" post.
Yeah I can see that!... Having that as a footer is a good approach also.
Thanks for sharing this. It really is an under appreciated feature that has a ton of potential. Using communities properly could be pretty big for me as far as finding other people to engage with without leaving Ecency to go to another site.
I also need subject matter to target sometimes too. But yes, communities are due for some attention here on hive
I'm not sure I understand this. Ecency is a frontend and a mobile dapp. You can post in communities and engage using ecency.
Amazing list!
I'm more aware now about other communities and defenetly I'm gonna to check them out.
Still not find a House / Decor community to post an idea that I have, hopefuly I'll find a community to share that idea.
Thank you for the post, I truly appreciate the work you put into it, @erikah.
My pleasure.
I ran a search and there's this community called My Home My Castle, which is for
Check it out, see if it fits your needs.
I'm a bad searcher I guess lol
Thank you so much for the help, I'm finally able to post that idea in the right community.
Have a awesome weekend!
I wouldn't say you're a bad searcher. Maybe you have used different keywords, so no worries :)
You're welcome, enjoy the new community and have a nice weekend :)
I was one of the people that got some replies from you posting in the wrong community and especially since you are putting so much work in it and since you give out the message so gentle...well super kudos for that because that isnt easy as I have written before.
Ocd to me always was one of the places where there is always someone around and that is why people like it as a communitt I guess as well. The memo of that it changed...people (myself as a first) are baaaaad readers
Just for clarification for the world: the community tag (the first tag) is not the same as a normal tag (correct me if I am wrong) here.
Thank you! Unfortunately not everyone is happy to get some guidance and some get angry as they don't see the big picture, or don't care.
I'm not sure I understand exactly what you mean, but I'm going to try to answer.
When you are posting in a community, your first tag is the community tag by default, which is something like this hive-174578. I mean you don't have to write this in the tag section as the system is going to write it for you. So yes, if you write a tag in the tag box, that will be the second tag. However, if you post on your blog and not in a community, then your first tag will be the tag you write first in the tag box. I hope it answers your question.
We are talking about the same thing actually. It is about posting in the right community what you are talking about and not adding the OCD tag to a post
Gheheh I get it that people respond annoyed often as this is what people do in general when criticism pops up, even though it is with the best intentions and for the benefit of the bigger picture. Not cool taking those jabs thats why you deserved the respect for what you do!
I am always trying to explain people that adding the OCD tag serves for nothing as OCD curators and actually no one is checking based on tags or checking posts based on tags. But some still think adding curangel, ocd, appreciator and what not, is going to help them, instead of adding relevant tags.
As for the second part of your comment, that is not criticism as we're here to help, but even so, not always is well received :)
Ugh! You make it so simple. You put in so much work to make it so. What a patriotic citizen. Haha! Muchas gracias!
I always check rules, even if I think I already know them. 💃🏾 proud of myself 😃.
Reading the rules can save you from a lot of trouble.
True that!
Hat's off and more respect to you for bringing this one. Definitely something need to take serious and posting on the right place.
Hopefully this will reach out to many newbies and especially Gonna recommend this one to whoever I feel like lost or wondering about which community to post.
It's Getting more easier for new people to get involve quickly in hive ecosystem. Slowly and Steadily Going very Good.
!LUV
This is just a part of the communities as there are so many. Otherwise you can find them by running a search, as one of my guides says. Save this list if you think it's helpful, but don't limit yourself, use the PeakD search box and find the community you need.
This is helpful in so many ways. Just this week @alessandrawhite was asking which hashtags she should use and which communities she should post to. Your post is quite timely. Thank you!
You're welcome. Hashtags should be related to the topic of the post and also, you can find the community you need by running a search in PeakD. There are so many communities to choose from.
This is very helpful especially for newbies like me. Thank you so much for taking the time to compile and share this.
I will sure check out the other guidelines you shared. Have a great day!
My pleasure. Make sure you don't limit yourself only to these communities. Find the guidelines about how to use communities and learn how to search for them.
Extremely helpful, thank you!
My pleasure.
That's a long list! I hope people will take time in finding their appropriate communities. Reblogging for more reach!
It is and it doesn't even have all the communities, as it is impossible to include them all. Thanks Kim!
I know it's not exhaustive because there those with very esoteric topics, but this is already very helpful. I found communities I knew existed.
Cheers for this @erikah
I think this could be quite useful!:)
I've already subscribed to new communities I never knew existed!
You're welcome. I'm glad you could find some you did not know till this post, but please go look around as there are so many more out there.
Yeah, I will do that... I find a new one every day :)
Morning @erikah - I appreciated having a look through your post today, and one of your points in your section about using the #hive tag correctly had me scratching my head. What's the right way to use it? Would appreciate your input on this.
Thanks, Tim.
Hello. I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Are you referring to #hive specifically? Tags should be related to the topic of your post so it should be used when you are writing about Hive.
Yep - I was referring to that tag #hive tag specifically; but I did some poking around today and come to learn that it should only be used when discussing the blockchain specifically - rather than just any activities on the blockchain. I think I'm right in saying that, yea?
Cheers for getting back to me.
You did the poking around not me.
If you are referring to first layer dev/coding stuff, than I don't agree. Hive is more than just the infrastructure, without the community it would mean nothing (a good example for that is the old chain, especially after we forked), so in my very humble opinion, the tag should not be limited to discussing the blockchain specifically.
@erikah
I will not post in letsmakeacollage. I don't like their beneficiary thing. It's compulsory to add beneficiary otherwise bot mutes our post. It's very disappointing to add someone 20% beneficiary although we didn't even participated in the contest. I am ok if they don't curate me but don't take 20% beneficiary or else mute rule. Just posting in #letsmakeacollage is better for me than in community. When I asked they said I can post else where so not my thing atleast.
No one said you should post in any of these communities, unless you want to. This is not my recommendation, it is a list with some of the existing communities on Hive. I said check the rules before posting, which means you read what they require and post if you think it's right for you. If not, turn around and find another one. Thank God we have plenty communities on Hive.
Good to know this.
This was a long read but totally worth it! Thanks Erikah! I didn’t know about the Hive Creators community until now.
If I’m being honest, I still struggle with recognizing what types of posts can be made in OCD because the “Topics that don’t fit in any of the niche communities” description is very wide and maybe vague, and can be misunderstood. It is because of this, I haven’t posted in OCD in a while. Could you maybe give an example of a topic that doesn’t fit in any of Niche communities? Because generally speaking, it seems every topic has been covered in a Niche Community. This will help me and a lot others I’m sure, understand what exactly to post in OCD.
Reading your comment makes me realize all my efforts have been in vain as you are still asking what to post in OCD. This post has been created in an effort to guide users towards niche communities, yet, you are asking what to post in OCD. When we have like 1k communities (maybe more, who knows), you still want to find a topic that does not fit in any other niche community and belongs to OCD.
I thought I don't have to spell it out, but looks like I was wrong. I have to ask you as well again. Why do you want to post in OCD? What attracts you to OCD? What you do is backwards thinking. You should think of topics you are interested in, ideas that pop up in your head and you find them interesting and worthy to share with the community, motivate them, teach them something.
While I was working on replying to you, I got notified that @ybanezkim26 mentioned me in his post.
As I said in my post, the focus should be on trying to grow niche communities, this is why OCD has started the incubation program. However, growing communities is a community effort and it's on us to do it. Kim took the first step today and chose a community that is small and needs growing. Hats off for that! ❤️ This is the right mindset. This is the only way of growing the platform.
Oh erikah. I’m sorry my question disappoints you. I was just trying to understand something. It’s been a long time since you or any other person corrected me to post in the right community. I find and post in Niche communities myself since the last time you corrected me(two months ago when I just joined). What I asked was out of curiosity. I’m sorry that made you feel like your effort was in vain. It’s not, I assure you. Your guidance has helped me and a lot others tremendously, and I’m disappointed I make you feel this way.
If you understand that niche communities should always come first, then it's ok.
Ohhhhh i never knew half of these even existed. I sometimes find it difficult where to post and so this is such a great help!
And this is maybe not even half of the existing communities as there are so many. Search the community list using PeakD and you'll see how many you will discover.
So your list only includes OCD niche communities? Good to know
This is what I wrote in my post.
This is why one should read the post first and then comment.
lol 💀
Incubation! Not niche. Sorry. My wording was wrong. Thanks for adding 'my' communities onto your list.
You're welcome.
Hi, friend.
Your article is very interesting because it is always good to be clear about the communities and the issues that we are going to deal with and above all to know their rules to follow.
Greetings and thanks for sharing your article.
Greetings to you too, it's good to know it is helpful. Happy blogging!
Oh! there's a lot more communities around and we should find them. Thanks for this list @erikah. I think I better posted my latest blog in hive food. This is a lesson learned too. Thank you so much for opening our mind to find a community where our blog most fit.
You're welcome. Save it and use it when you need a new community. Also please use the community search function in PeakD.
Thanks @erikah for this useful tips. I will use search in community if I have new topic and don't know where community to post.
You're welcome and have fun 👍
Thank you ... this sorting of the communities make them easier to explore.
You might consider adding Sketchbook, Alien Art Hive, and Art on Chain for art...
My pleasure. The list is not complete, as I said in my post, there are many communities, not just those on the list.
My mistake ... I missed that part. Thanks for the clarification!
Wow, this has been the best thing I have seen on hive today
I am one year on hive and I am still roaming around
Just yesterday I was talking to my friend @hively, we were just talking about how to find the right niche to settle in on hive.
I personally I have been having issues with posting in the right community and the right tags to use as well.
Coming to see this post is a high relief on me
Thank you @erikah, my hive friend, I am been noticing your supports on my post as well. I appreciate this kind gestures🤗
You're welcome. Communities are created by users, so every day there are new communities added, which makes it impossible to know them all. This is why it is good to always run a search to see what's new.
It takes time to learn and even so, one can not know everything.
Your effort is really appreciated. This is a great guide for beginners. A lot of people don't know where to post and post in random places. I hope this post will guide them and help them get it right. I will reblog this to reach more people.
Thank you incublus. This doesn't solve the problem, not by far, but it's a starting point at least.
Such habits are not something that can be solved in a day. I hope this will be a good start and people will see the right communities. There are a lot of communities here that I don't see either.
Added this onto my wall ma'am this will be a really big help to me and to all the others a
I'm really glad to hear that. Happy blogging.
Thank you so much ma'am God bless you always
God bless you too :)
This is an AWESOME list! It will be great for new and some old members to have a browse and find some niche categories they might have missed!
I love the idea of helping build and support these niche categories. Stumbled my way into "500 words a day", seems like a nice little group to get some inspiration going! Hopefully i'll be able to contribute to it more often also, see if we can respark it!
On another note, there's a new tribe "Sloth.Buzz" for everything crypto, gaming, memes, music and of course SLOTH! General niche, everything tends to have a slothly edge! They'll have a CryptoRadio station being integrated for all the musical content creators, join the slothbuzz discord and submit your music to be featured in Fridays "launch party"! Should be great fun an an awesome way to introduce sloth.buzz to the Hive community!
The thing is, browsing through community list, discovering communities you had no idea exist can give you idea about what to post and help you going forward.
Thanks for letting us know about "Sloth.Buzz". I'm sure there will be people interested in that too. If there's a community set up already, then it is already included. My list is just a part of the communities as it's impossible to include them all. Also, no one should limit themselves to this list, we have an amazing search function, provided by PeakD, which helps you brows through all the communities created on Hive.
Yes, I only recently discovered the full "communities" tab and potential the other day, don't ask, it's a sloth issue! There's an awesome amount of niche communities out there waiting for people to get involved!
I just posted to the 500 words a day community, referencing this post and challenging others to make a post into a niche community tomorrow! (or today! Why not)!
Thanks again for the list, i'll be saving that for future reference, hopefully my tags will start reflecting my content more increasing the chance of it being noticed!
That's a very good idea!
A quick one.. I have gone through the communities and I want to write about a general knowledge on what's good or evil? I'm thinking daily blog or self improvement.. Or what community do you think it best fits
Again, please note, this is not the complete list of communities we have on Hive. We have a lot more, but it took me a couple of weeks to put this together, with all my daily activities going on.
You should use PeakD search on communities, use the keywords you think describe your topic and see how many communities are there for the topic and choose the right one.
It's hard to suggest a community if I can't read the post entirely and I'm not an expert either, but here's the rules for Self Improvement community -> https://peakd.com/c/hive-166408/about.
OK sir.. Thank you.. I will go through it
Damn girl! You definitely spent a lot of time putting this together and it should somehow get pinned and be read as a T&C by any newbie. I wish there would be this possibility!
I know about the frustrated ones which actually get along with those that register hopping to get fortunes over the night and then they simply disappear. But in the end it's better like that instead of having a huge community with lots of people that shouldn't take part in it. That's my opinion.
Going through communities, reading descriptions and rules takes a lot of time, so yeah, there are a good few hours of work here and it is obviously incomplete.
About those frustrated, it's inevitable as some come in with high hopes and then desperation kicks in as this is not the place to get rich quick. Onboarders also are responsible for how they are onboarding them. If the keyword is earning a lot, then disappointment is inevitable. I'm not saying it's wrong to focus on earning but everyone needs to understand that t won't happen overnight. On the other hand, this is a natural process. Those who like the chain stay, others leave, you cant keep them here by force and this is good :)
It's really nice to see different communities on the Hive Platform. The fact that each community serves a separate purpose also provides diversity in choosing a topic on behalf of the authors. I think it is a post that I have contributed immensely in terms of the development of Hive and its rise and appeal to large audiences. You explain such topics to us writers very well. Now I'm going to start writing by examining all the communities and reading the rules, trying to choose the ones that suit me. Thank you very much for this beautiful article.
It's good to explore what communities are available as just browsing through them can give you a few idea about what to post. As they say, you don;t know till you see it. Have fin as there are a lot to discover :)
That is very thorough and inspiring. Thank you!
My pleasure.
Wow thanks so much for this great post. It is really helpful to me. With this I just discover a new community I should flow with
You're welcome, I'm glad you could find a community that you like.
Thank you for this list of communities. It will help a lot in finding a suitable community for our posts.. !PIZZA
You're welcome. Also please use the PeakD search as there are so many communities :)
Yup.. Thanks 😊
First and foremost there are some communities you mentioned that i never knew they existed wow it is so amazing and they are some you mentioned that i have been looking forward to put up a content, Thanks for the eye opening and i am also shocked that @ocdb is not a general community anymore came like a shock but I am also sure the reason Is for the best @erikah to be honest after i posted on OCD and you gave me a niche that feet's my post it has been going great Daily blog was my kinda niche and i need more niche lol, I also tried the cross post it was almost like it didn't favor me why so ?
I'm afraid I don't understand what you mean by didn't favor you.
I tried the cross post and the next day all I could see on my hive rewards was like it was cancelled you know what I mean.
I have explained how cross posting means in one of my posts. You can find the link to that at the bottom of this post. But I'm going to explain what you don't understand. When you cross post, a second post is created, posted in the community you choose to cross-post in, but the new post's rewards are denied as you can't monetize the same content twice on Hive. But those who come across your post, can still click the link that takes them to the original post, that can be upvoted. I hope it's more clear now.
Thanks @erikah it is so clear to me now thank you very much.
My pleasure.
Thanks for the list, I love that we are becoming more organized 🙌 I think of communities sort of like subforums...
!PIZZA !ALIVE !PIMP
You must be killin' it out here!
@wrestlingdesires just slapped you with 1.000 PIMP, @erikah.
You earned 1.000 PIMP for the strong hand.
They're getting a workout and slapped 1/1 possible people today.

You're welcome.
I wouldn't go that far as for that to happen users need to get familiar with communities and start using them, but it's good that so many are available. And you are right, communities are like subforums I suppose.
I didn't say we were there yet 😂 But I see a lot of great posts in the communities that I'm active in, and in general that's how I search for new authors.
Then we're in the right track 😉
Yes, definitely 🙌 We just need to spread the word about our favorite communities :)
This is such a blessing. Thank you so much for the effort. I can finally seek for the right communities fit to my liking, I subscribed to some just now.
You're welcome and I'm glad my work wasn't for nothing. Good luck and happy blogging.
That guide I have been following, discovering also different communities where posting.
I would love to get your opinion on my last post with a wide and detailed information about where to post this article. In the stats I see that Feathered Friends is usually not among the most curated from OCD, so I humbly thought to bring it at your attention to get a feedback if it was worth support 🙏

looks to me like you posted that in the right community , however the story telling and photos would also make it a good post for @hive-14396 #Photo-essay or nature lovers .
I'm not sure which stats you're referring to. Also, the mentioned community is not part of the incubation program, but even if it was, that doesn't mean every post gets curated by OCD. As about where to post, you can post it anywhere you like, as long as it fits the community rules. It's up to you.
Yes, I know what you say.
And I know that posting in curated communities from OCD does not mean being curated.
Here is an example, just an example to see if I understood correctly:
if a post is posted in a community that does not make part of the Incubation Program of OCD, does it have anyway the chance of getting curated by OCD?
Besides, here is the stats I am referring to. From some months ago.
Thanks for the explanations. They will be much appreciated
Yes, it does. OCD curators are curating across the chain, not only the incubated communities.
That chart is from January, but even if it was new, you should not chase a community just because you see it is the most voted.
My humble advice, write about what you like, post about things you find interesting, engage with like minded people and you'll see the results.
