Happy German Unity Day / Tag der deutschen Vereinigung πŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ 🍻 - 3 October

Rathaus, Hamburg - it was very cold and we were trembling; prove is in the "clarity" of the picture.😜

When I visited Hamburg, Germany in 2019, everything intrigue me, i.e. the city, culture, food, people, etc. I was elated to visit Germany again as my last visit was when I was a teenager. However, I've never been to the North of Germany and for some reason, I had to be there during winter and I was told then, it was one of the coldest winters they were experiencing during that time.

I guess like most Asians that do not live in a country with four seasons, I expressed how frozen (exaggeration) I felt but yet fascinated and in love with the winter season, especially when it snowed!

However, if one had lived through the period before the unification and had to walk miles through the snow that filled the lands at a knee-high level for shelter and safety, I guess winter might not be so fun, because of this experience.

Before the unification, families were separated during this period being on or driven to different sides of the wall and they could not see each other but pray for the others' wellbeing without actually knowing what might or might not have happened or is happening to them. This was indeed a time that many will only read about in history and can only imagine (such as myself).

While, the emotions, physical and mental state of the baby boomers in Germany during this period seemed surreal to me, it is only through the stories of another that lived through this period in history, that I know it is as real as it gets, when thousands of people cried tears of joy and the joyous uproar from an overwhelming feeling of relief; while looking at the wall ("Berlin Wall") that separated the West and East Germany being brought down. German Unity Day

For me, looking at Hamburg today and other parts of Germany few years back, with all its growth and development as well as stability, it is difficult for me to imagine Germany otherwise. Kudos to Germany! where education up to a certain level is free and having a dual education system, bratwurst to die for, etc. 🍻

Tag der deutschen Vereinigung πŸŽ‰

Lastly, to commemorate this beautiful day that means so much more to some than others, I would like to share a photo of a beautiful bouquet of flowers (also because I don't have any pictures from this day and did not want to source it from the internet) that I took using a Samsung Galaxy mobile phone.

All content i.e. photos, videos, etc. are produced originally by me unless stated otherwise.

Thank you and have a great week ahead ❣️
