Nature has many things to offer and teach us, every day in our environment really wonderful things happen, whether it is a sunset or the migration of birds high in the clouds.
Sadly, because of our daily occupations, technology or because we are so focused on our own business, we can miss out on the beauty that our mother earth gives us. That's why today I wanted to share with you some pictures of a curious little animal that appeared near our home.
La naturaleza tiene muchas cosas que ofrecernos y enseñarnos, todos los días en nuestro entorno pasan cosas realmente maravillosas, ya sea una puesta de sol o la migración de aves en lo alto de las nubes.
Tristemente por las ocupaciones diarias, la tecnología o por estar tan concentrados en nuestros propios asuntos, nos podemos perder de la belleza que nuestra madre tierra nos regala. Por eso hoy quería compartir con ustedes unas fotografías de un curioso y pequeño animalito que apareció cerca de nuestro casa.
To tell you the story from the beginning: My wife's family has been characterized by being very hardworking people and they make the most of all the resources they have and how they have a big yard every year they plant different plants for food like corn, beans and auyama. By the beginning of the pandemic, the dry season was about to end so we all worked to clean, fertilize and prepare the ground so it would be ready when the rainy season started. Whenever we move land, different little animals appear, from reptiles to interesting beetles.
At the moment the dry season is starting and since we already harvested the crops of what we sowed, we cleaned the land to prepare it again. So a few days ago, when my brother-in-law was doing some of the cleaning work, he noticed something shiny sliding in the ground. Because we live on the side of a hill that connects to a large green area it is very common to find snakes of different species, some poisonous and others not, but this little animal was saved because it had similar characteristics to the smooth snakes or hunters, which are harmless and not poisonous and help control pests or avoid snakes that are poisonous.
Para contarles la historia desde el principio: La familia de mi esposa se han caracterizado por ser personas muy trabajadoras y aprovechan al máximo todos los recursos que posean y cómo tienen un gran patio todos los años siembran distintas plantas para alimento como maíz frijoles y auyama. Para el inicio de la pandemia, estaba apunto de terminar la temporada de sequía así que todos trabajamos para limpiar, abonar y preparar el terreno para que estuviera listo cuando comenzará la temporada de lluvia. Siempre cuando movemos tierra aparecen distintos animalitos desde reptiles hasta interesantes escarabajos.
En los momentos actuales la temporada de sequía está comenzando y como ya recogimos las cosechas de lo que sembramos, limpiamos el terreno para prepararlo de nuevo. Así que hace unos días, cuando mi cuñado estaba haciendo una parte de las labores de limpieza, pudo notar algo brillante que se deslizaba en la tierra. Debido a que vivimos en falda de una colina que conecta con una gran área verde es muy común encontrarse serpientes de distintas especies algunas venenosas y otras no, pero este animalito se salvó debido a que poseía características similares a las culebras lisas o cazadoras, Qué son inofensivas y no son venenosas y ayudan a controlar las plagas o evitar a las culebras que sí son venenosas.
So, my brother-in-law carefully took it off the ground and was immediately fascinated by the color and anatomy of this little animal, since from a distance it looked like a snake but from close up you could see its little legs. I immediately took my phone and took several pictures of it, it was a bit difficult because it was constantly moving. After a long photo session we put it back where we had found it.
Así que con cuidado mi cuñado la tomo del suelo y de inmediato quedó fascinado por el color y la anatomía de este animalito, ya que a lo lejos parecía una culebra pero de cerca se podían notar sus pequeñas patitas. Inmediatamente tomé mi teléfono y le hice varias fotografías, fue un poco difícil debido a que estaba en constante movimiento. Luego de hacerle una larga sesión de fotografías la pusimos de vuelta donde la habíamos encontrado.
We immediately searched the internet to find out what this species of lizard is called and whether it was dangerous or not and also all its characteristics. After typing in the search engine: lizard that looks like a snake 🤔🤣 we found out that it is called Marisora brachypoda or as it is colloquially called The Snake Lizard. Due to its long form and its almost imperceptible legs it can be confused with a snake but it is a species of lizard native to Central America and you can find it more commonly in countries like Honduras and Costa Rica.
But apart from the anatomy and color of this small lizard, we also found it very curious and interesting that we found it here in South America (Venezuela) since the information we were able to investigate was that it was found exclusively in Central America.
Other interesting aspects of the Marisora brachypoda lizard, is that they are mainly insectivorous animals and it is not very common to see them on the ground since most of the time they spend climbing trees, they are not poisonous and as we can notice in the photos they are gentle. Also like other lizards, if they lose their tails it does not affect the animal at all and this in spite of the fact that the tail is almost half of the lizard's body.
De inmediato buscamos en internet para conocer cómo se llama esta especie de lagarto y si era peligroso o no y también todos las características. Después de escribr en el buscador: lagartija que parece una culebra 🤔🤣 encontramos que se llama Marisora brachypoda o como le dicen coloquialmente El lagarto serpiente. Debido a su larga forma y sus patitas casi imperceptibles puede llegarse a confundir con una serpiente pero es una especie de lagarto originario de centroamérica y la puedes encontrar más comúnmente en países como Honduras y costa rica.
Pero aparte de la anatomía y el color de este pequeño lagarto, tambien nos pareció muy curioso e interesante es que lo encontráramos aquí en Suramérica (Venezuela) ya que la información que pudimos investigar era que se encontraba exclusivamente en centroamérica.
Otros aspectos interesantes de los lagartos Marisora brachypoda, es que son animales principalmente insectívoros y no es muy común verlas en el suelo ya que la mayor parte del tiempo la pasan trepando árboles, no son venenosos y Cómo podemos notar en las fotos son apacibles. También al igual que otros lagartos, Si pierden la cola no afecta en nada al animal y esto a pesar de que la cola sea casi la mitad del cuerpo de la lagartija.
From this moment I have a nice anecdote or lesson, how much we miss by not looking around, because there are many impressive things that happen in our environment and by being distracted we can miss that. So from now on I try to appreciate the little things in life and all those details that nature gives us and also learn and discover new and impressive things every day.

De este momento me queda una bonita anécdota o lección, lo mucho que nos perdemos peder por no mirar bien a nuestro alrededor, ya que hay muchas cosas impresionantes que pasan en nuestro entorno y por estar distraídos podemos perdernos de eso. Así que a partir de ahora trato de apreciar las cosas pequeñas de la vida y todos esos detalles que nos regala la naturaleza y tambien aprender y descubrir cada día cosas nuevas e impresionantes.

Yes, but it was not poisonous or dangerous, but I was more afraid of the little animal hahaha
