My Introductory Post

in OCD3 days ago

Hellooooo everyone! What a cool community to find myself. Wow! I believe I'm welcome? Yes? Thank you!
Let me present myself before I take my seat.
My name is Boniface Ujah Ekoja, but I'm mostly known as Hero, a nickname I picked for myself.
Am from Benue state, Nigeria (you know, the food basket of the nation, and guess what, I eat alot).

Idoma by tribe and the sixth child and the fifth son in a family of seven. My parents actually crossed the half a dozen mark, by one. Good for me too, because I got a baby brother to play with. And send on errands too.

I was also called the big baby because I was the most heavily built in my family, tall and a bit plump than my other siblings and so, I stood out as the 'Goliath' of the house, as my uncle fondly calls me. He is fond of me because I was named after him (Ujah). It is common among us the Idomas to name children after older family members as a sign of love and respect. So, I got named after my Dad's elder brother, Ujah Anyebe.
Since it was a rural area in which I was born, I did not get to attend school until I turned six and it was not shameful as it would have been these days because we all were age mates then, in the same class so we saw it as the normal stuff. But mind you, you start going to the farm as early as four. Then you can help with a couple of sticks for the fire to get the evening meals ready and when its harvesting season, you can at least bring home a tuber of yam. Sometimes you achieve this feat while crying. As I often did because, I so much detest farming back then. Maybe I still do a bit now. Just a bit. But I so much love hunting and that, I never get tired of. Although I could not accompany my brothers on hunting trips until quite later when I turned nine. Five years after my eligibility to farming.
I spent six years in primary school and concluded it when I turned 12 years old. It was a great honor and thanks to our parents because many kids had to stop half way in other to take up farming, full time while others did due to financial issues. I proceeded to junior secondary school (JSS1) at Government Commercial Secondary School Atlo, just 3 kilometers from my village and was the only secondary school within a 10 kilometer radius, the next could only be found in Otukpo town, 12 kilometers away. But it was fun walking to school along with tens of other students from my village and other neigbouring villages to and from school every school days. It made the distance alot more bearable. Sometimes, we ger into fights amongst ourselves but we quickly reconcile before the end of the trek. I really miss those days.

I took up playing football, my hobby and I played as a striker for both my village and the school's football team. Although I lacked speed but I made it up with strength, my dribbling ability and my powerful shots. No goalkeeper will want to be at the receiving end of my shots.

But the rough part of the days was when you do get home and had to rush straight to the farm for that is only where you can get your lunch. Arrg! Imagine the pangs of hunger clinging to the walls of your stomach and you having to trek another 2 kilometers or more after you get home before you have your meal? But it was always worth the stress for you do get treated to a rich meal of pounded yam and melon soup or vegetable soup graced with bush meat trapped at the farm. Although the richness of the meal depends on the time of the year. Food is better and graceful during the harvest seasons.
Well, I graduated from secondary school in 2017. I did well in my WAEC (West African Examination Council) examination and straight off, my Dad shipped me to Otukpo town to stay with my Aunty and also learn a trade.

There was no thought of higher education. I got enrolled into a driving school to learn how to drive a car. We got thought using an old Peugeot 504 car although once you start getting better, we do get allowed to drive other vehicles like the toyota camry but it is very rare. Within 6 months, I could move the car pretty well and when I had been learning a year, my boss assigned me to teaching other learners and that also increased my driving potential. I got to enjoy driving so much that I asked me uncle who owns a super market in a town called Ibadan the capital of Oyo state to fix me in as his driver. Well, he called me over in 2019, a year after I had graduated from driving school.

Currently, I drive for the China Harbour Engineering Construction Company.

My hobbies are football and swimming. Like every child born in the village, I started learning how to swim very early, at age 5 shortly before you start primary school, you will have to start swimming. We had a large river flowing through the village and so it was kind of like a prerequisite for every child to be able to swim. Athough one or two within an age group occasionally develop cold feet, but it was rare. But for football, it is a matter of choice since it is not compulsory, but for me, I see it as football or nothing else.

I also love warching football on the professional level and my favourite club is Arsenal Fc, the gunners!

I also love pets, or pet, I do say because I like dogs. In the village we always have them around the home and also during huntings, we take them along. Most times, your success during hunting depends on the number of dogs you take along and their hunting ability. My uncle keeps one in his house at Ibadan and I do play often with the guy.

Although I did not further my education, that did not kill my flare for reading or writing. I read a lot of novels and still read whenever I can. Also, I like to write my own stories and some reviews on the ones I 've read. I also have the habit of picking up newspapers I see on the ground, to read.
I am working towards furthering my education. I want to study Mass communication because I believe my jovial nature and funny deposition will make me a success in that line.
I'm glad to be here and I believe I have a lot to gain, positively from this community and also hope to contribute positively to the community too. As the saying goes "One good turn, deserves another".
Thank you for having me.

Seven suggestions to consider:

  1. Guard your passwords carefully, and only publish with the posting key,
  2. Use your active key only for wallet transactions, Keychain, Peaklock, and Hivesigner,
  3. The master password and the owner key are only used to reset compromised passwords,
  4. DO NOT lose your password or keys; copy and store offline,
  5. Do not publish other people's work, be it photos or written, without credit, and be sure to source all of your work, even if it is your own.
  6. An introduceyourself tag is used only once , and
  7. DO NOT OPEN any links in memos or comments that you do not know who they belong to. If it sounds too good to be true it probably is, so the old saying goes. There is nothing free here.
