The weather over the last few days belies the fact that in South Africa, September the first is the "meterological" first day of spring. Ahem, no, looking at the mountains and feeling the cold blowing down the valley.
All of that said, there is cause to be grateful. As the farmers say, the mountains bless our village: the snow is water that we so need. This August is the coldest and wettest we've had in seven years and really does herald the end of a long drought. We can literally hear the grass growing. That's a story for another time.
Today's Power Back Story
I have been a fan of Power Up Day for over a year; when I did my first power up post is not important. What is, is that @streetstyle's initiative made me pay attention to what it meant to have Hivepower. It's not only an investment but it enables me to do so much more on Hive. I am delighted to be able to offer, even if they are very small, delegations to redfish through Hive Power Up Day (which you can read about here). As importantly, if not more so, my votes on posts - even if I don't comment - actually make a difference. Call me an old softie, but I like being able to do that.
This month's Hive Power Up Day is the beginning of a new, and hopefully lasting collaboration (don't you love that?) between two great women, @traciyork and @victoriabsb.
- Read Traci's post here. She's doing a great job holding the fort while @streetsyle is away. Oh, and as always, I am sending best wishes to him and hope to see him back soon!
- Read Victoria's post here. I love the way she's bringing the Spanish community into this initiative.
International
I also saw a contribution from @winniex - in Chinese - making this a really international initiative like the rest of the Hive.
Putting in some power
When I participated in the August Power Up Day, I only powered up the liquid HP in my account. It was miniscule. I have been, and am saving, some of that for the current rainy days. This time, I don't mean literally: I'm talking about the rainy days that are thanks to the Corona virus...
So
This month, I've gone out on a limb and I've used some of those liquid Hive Backed Dollars to buy Hive (using @blocktrades very useful quick trade service). Because I like either round numbers or multiples of 2, 5 or 10, I used 15 HBD:
Then I powered up both what was already in my wallet - about 7-odd Hive and what I bought:
Then this - I can't wait to get my badge from @hivebuzz
Looking forward
This has probably got to have been one of the most difficult years that most people alive have ever faced. I know that I speak for myself. I have, however, decided, also for myself, but I hope for others, too, that things are beginning to turn.
Buying Hive using my HBD is reinvesting my earnings which is as much about putting back and getting out.
I am realistic: when the proverbial hits the fan in real life, it's good to have something to fall back on. So, I'm hedging my bets on Hive and at the same time doing what I can in my 3D life to earn fiat to pay the bills.
It's taken a while, but I have learned that it's insane to have all one's eggs in the same basket!
Until next time, stay safe, stay healthy

Thank you @fionasfavourites, for using the CO2 Compensation Coin (COCO) to reduce your CO2 footprint.
As usual for #post on Twitter
I'm soggy with late summer thunderstorms and humidity, so I'll happily send over some your way if you need some more. ;) It is kind of fun to have gotten the badge and we get to wait and see what our buzzing bee looks like at the end of HPUD day! Really is a crazy year. Which makes all these power ups that much more impressive given so many people have been able to use their rewards to buy some bread or pay the electric bill. Here's hoping we can all have many eggs and many baskets after all of this mess!
I will happily blow some of this wind your way! It's going to be interesting to see what the HiveBuzz team does with the badges....and I am so with you on the eggs and baskets...😂
Congratulations @fionasfavourites! You received a personal badge!
Participate in the next Power Up Day and try to power-up more HIVE to get a bigger Power-Bee.
May the Hive Power be with you!
You can view your badges on your board and compare yourself to others in the Ranking
Do not miss the last post from @hivebuzz:
This is so awesome! Thank you! Yay!
Well done @fionasfavourites! Thanks for joining in the initiative! It's so much fun 🐝🐝🐝🐝
Hello
I dedicate myself whenever I can to a permaculture project that I have on the coast of La Guaira in Venezuela; I liked your post a lot.Certainly for us it has been an intense summer and a year full of challenges, but we have to be the size of those challenges that we have to face, and have grace to face it.Certainly for us it has been an intense summer and a year full of challenges, but we have to be the size of those challenges and have the grace to face them. Right now we are in the rainy season, a propitious time to plant and in a few weeks I will be working to guarantee food for 2021.
For my hive works not only as a community as a savings, the currency of my country is unstable, so I try to have one foot on the ground and another in the virtual world.

Hello @towatia!
How nice of you to stop by! Permaculture is something I'd really like to do - if we had the space. We have had a harsh winter this year and our summer will be really hot. While we are not in the same situation as you are in Venezuela, things are difficult. I am also working on Hive as a combination of investment and hoping for a return and like you, have one foot in the 3D world and the other in the virtual. Covid-19's lockdown has knocked my income very hard, so I am trying to generate more here while looking for other work at the same time.
I trust you have good rains and excellent crops to carry you through winter and to the next harvest.
