Each week over the last sixty eight weeks I've run a little engagement initiative here on hive. It started during an enforced work-from-home-lockdown period at the beginning of the pandemic as something fun to do and with the hope a few would get involved.
I set a topic on Friday and invite people to engage in the comments then on Monday wrap it up and hand out some hive to a few who got involved. So far I've handed out over 4000 hive in those weeks, but more importantly met new people, built relationships and had a lot of fun!
In week sixty eight, this week, I decided to do a phone photography topic and invite people to share and explain a photo from their phone, a photo of basically anything. You can see the post here if you're keen to get involved.
One of the options people could choose was a selfie, which a few decided to do, and whilst I shared a phone photo in the topic post already I thought I'd do a selfie post as well because why the hell not right?
That's me in the photo above, taken only yesterday so it's about as up to date as it's going to get. I know, I know, it's a little frightening but it's the only head I have so there's no choice but to work with it. I'm just me, for better or worse.
I'm a fifty one year old chap and have seen some life; a lot really. I've had success and failure, did good and bad things and have gained a great deal of wisdom along the way. I'm not overly intelligent but not what I'd call stupid and I have some great qualities I believe. Generosity, kindness, humility, strength of character and so on. But I can be many other things and do so as required in life.
I don't suffer fools gladly and don't like inequality...I guess that comes through in the quote I selected at the start of this post.
I don't see colour, I see character and no matter what colour a person is if I see a poor character and poor behaviour I act (react) accordingly.
I set high standards for myself and hold low expectations of others; probably a by-product of being used and abused over the years, and this leads me to generally keep most people at arms length most often. I'm not a peopley person, but should someone hold my trust there's little I wouldn't do for them. I'm a good man to have in one's corner, or so my friends say.
I could go on, but I won't. I'm not that interesting. Nope, I'm just a very average flawed, fallible and broken chap who tries to make his way through life the best he can.
I like parts of myself, my traits, thoughts and abilities, and don't like other aspects...My eyes for instance. It's something that people comment on most often here on hive when there's a photo of me in my posts. They always comment that I have my Oakley's on. I do it to hide my eyes y'all.
There's other things too but that's normal; our pendulum's swing both ways right? I'm ok, and am not, depending on which direction the pendulum is going at any given point. I've learned how to work with it, even how to influence it however it will always, always, go one way then the other. That's how life is. Overall though...Yeah, I'm not too horrendous and have a thing or two of value about me and whilst I may look ugly, inside or out to some, I'm only able to be me and so I have to accept that and seek my best version as often as I can - Of myself and life also.
So, this is selfie has been prompted by the weekend-engagement post and if you want to get involved follow the link to week sixty eight's topic and leave a comment. You don't have to do a selfie but are most welcome to if you like.
Design and create your ideal life, don't live it by default - Tomorrow isn't promised so be humble and kind

You're a photographic bassa!
I am quite fond of a selfie. I think also that recognising you are the grand total of all of your traits, both physical and mental is a powerful thing. It's the only way to be happy.
Already, yer a handsome bugger and I will hear notging to the contrary!!
Titans!!
Titans will always recognise their own kind you handsome beast you.
So many people feel inclined to shun the bad and look only to the good but we are all of it combined and one drives the other in a cyclic fashion.
And now, I'll leave you with some words you'll be familiar with, as a Titan.
They do indeed drive the other. Together the sum is greater than it's component parts.
Hehe, how could a Titan forget about the Kraken!
That pesky Kraken...Keeps the Titans on their toes.
Something has to keep us grounded and if it had to be a mythical giant seabeast then so be it!
Indeed, nowadays many people only judge from the outward appearance, regardless of how their heart is, even though we both know a person's heart is much better than the outer appearance,
Pre-judgment based on physical appearance has always been a think, I htink it's got worse as society has embraced social media though; I have nothing to back that up with other than my own observations though.
Thanks for your comment.
Exactly right sir and only the good deeds done by you on this day will come in handy even if it is just a smile given to someone by you.
I read your post often and i like your dignified personality and positive attitude and thinking.
Thank you for your kind comments and perspective' I'm pleased you enjoy my posts and hope you find some value.
Thanks a lot sir 🌹
I'm sure it will happen soon. Man gains value when he begins to recognize himself and his abilities and to use them properly.
Wow! So touching, 🤗 when it tells you all what you ever wanted to hear, you screenshot it and will always want to read it again, I love it that, you respect others more as you respect yourself and that you also see others they way they are, this is 100% right, is really one of a kind words 🥰
Thank you mate, much appreciated.
You are welcome 🥰

First, sorry can't upvotes because of the low percentage, only 70% something.
I love the quotes that you welcomed your readers by the way. A selfie is like telling people who you really are and there is nothing to hide of. You are different in your own way and I guess I like the way you are.
I think you are not an average person because you understand well why you shouldn't. Oh hey, I haven't seen that Oakley eyes by the way. 🙂
I'm different alright. Sometimes in a good way. Sometimes not. Lol.
Sorry I missed this one - been away! You are gorgeous, but let's see a selfie without the sunnies!
Lol...There's one a few posts back on my post feed. At least for now. I'll edit it out eventually.
Don't you dare edit it out!
sneaks away to quickly take a screenshot for history
🤣
Lol. Maybe I won't. Maybe I will.
Whaaaat? You're indecisive? What's this, where's Galen?!
Lol...Well, sometimes it pays to seem indecisive. Avoids having to give an exact response.
I'm diving for you (in my country diving is looking at you and thinking: what a handsome boy !!) Yes, I think you are a nice boy and I know that internally you are too. I congratulate you on your 68 weeks of the weekend challenge, that is called perseverance, that is a quality that not many have @galenkp
You're making me blush. ☺️
It's been a pleasure to do the #weekend-engagement topic for 68 weeks and I'm looking forward to 69.
Sounds pretty interesting to me. Can you imagine how predictable and boring life would be if everyone were perfect and infallible? I'd rather have chaos.
I agree with you and feel very strongly that perfection doesn't exist. I don't try and reach it although there was a time I did. A fools errand, and I'm glad I adjusted myself to seek improvement instead. I'm much happier.
That's a sharp black & white photo Galen.
I like the contrast and the clarity of it.
You could do a selfie tutorial, as you seemed to have mastered the skill 😁
Not all selfies look this good!
I blame the
cameraphone for any happy coincidences that occur from a photographic perspective. I point it and press a button and the magic happens.Well, if seeing is believing; then I do believe in magic...
Magic happens.
