OUR COVID-19 JOURNEY

This is my journal on how we fought COVID and on process of recovering.

August 30, 2021

My boyfriend has a fever, headache, body pain and chills. I am staying beside him to take care of him, we are praying that it's just a simple flu. But to be sure, I asked his mother to get him tested for COVID.

We went grocery shopping last August 27 and we suspect that he got the virus from the grocery store.

August 31, 2021

He still got fever, headache and cough. The health worker who will conduct the test came. We are all negative except for my boyfriend. His mother told me stay away from him since he needs to be isolated. I just bring him food and medicine through the room's window. He also started doing steam inhalation.

His uncle who is a doctor gave him antibiotic. My boyfriend has supplies of fruits, food, and hot water so he can strengthen his immune system.

I am now staying in the living room.. My boyfriend's mother wanted me to sleep in their room but I declined. I tested negative, however, I was exposed to my boyfriend for a long time. And to avoid further contamination to other family members, I am sleeping on the couch.

September 01, 2021

Still the day continues and my boyfriend is getting better. He no longer has fever and migraine. He still coughs though.

At around lunchtime, my body feels kinda heavy and I'm starting to get a headache. I tried to sleep. After an hour or two, I was awoken by body pain and severe headache. I told my bf's mom if I can have another test for COVID since I'm not feeling well and I am experiencing the same symptoms. However, due to the high demands of people getting tested, our village head told us that I might be tested the next day. I can't wait that long because I am afraid I might transmit the virus to my bf's family in case I am now COVID positive.

At around 4pm, we asked out doctor if I can stay inside the room where my bf is staying since we suspect that I am now positive of COVID. And he allowed me as long as we wear masks all the time and avoid physical contact.

My fever went up to 39.2C. I started my medication and steam inhalation. I also sleep a lot to improve my immune system.

September 3, 2021

My temperature is unstable. It went from 39 down to 37 then up again to 38. I feel awful especially at night. I have difficulty sleeping.

At midnight, I was awoken by severe pain in my stomach. It feels like someone's twisting my intestines real hard. I though I'm on the verge of collapse. Plus, I still got 38.5C fever. I went to the comfort room to relieve myself, thinking that it might be the food I ate earlier. When I was done, I quickly checked my temp and it went down to 35.7 and I suddenly feel great and had a good night sleep.

September 8, 2021

For the past few days, I am feeling great except for today. My fever went back to 39.8. I am not getting proper sleep. So our doctor decided to pay us a visit. My boyfriend is getting better except for his sense of smell and taste. But my case is different, I have pneumonia. The doctor told me to take nebulizer and oxygen support since my oxygen sat is down to 91 which is supposed to be 95 or higher.

I feel worst.

September 9, 2021

I can barely breathe. Just a walk to the comfort room is very tiring for me and I can't talk properly because of shortness of breath.

In the evening, my oxygen saturation is down to 83, my bf's mom is really worried and she is now calling different hospitals and ambulance for my admission. I just want to sleep and luckily, I was able to do so.

September 10, 2021

I felt better when I woke up. And I told my bf's mom that there is no need for hospital admission. I am quite afraid since I know that I will be alone there and there are other patients who needed it (the slot for admission) more.

I still continue my day with oxygen support and medication. If I remove my oxygen support, my oxygen sat will be down to 87 but I am feeling better than in the past few days.

FAST FORWARD TO SEPTEMBER 20, 2021
It's my birthday! I have many plans for today but because of COVID, I have to cancel all of it. I have no sense of smell and taste so I can't really taste the pasta my bf's mom cooked for me. Still, I am grateful for another year in my life as well as our speedy recovery.

September 22, 2021
Our doctor once again visited us to check our conditions. He told us that our quarantine will be over on Sept. 29. And that we can have our COVID vaccine 2 weeks after our full recovery.

We still experience post-COVID effects such as we get easily tired if we do simple chores such as taking a bath or any physical activity. But, they told us that it's just normal and we just have to focus on recovery.

It's the last day of our quarantine. And our sense of taste and smell are returning, I think I can now taste the food properly around 80% to which I am very thankful. Also, I can now move properly without getting dizzy or anything.

BTW, these are the medications, food and activity that helped us through our fight with COVID:

MEDICATIONS: (You have to get the doctor's permission first before taking any medicine)

  1. Favipiravir - antiviral medication
  2. Azithromycin & Cefixime - antibiotic
  3. Paracetamol Biogesic - for fever and headache
  4. Bactidol - for gargle
  5. Acetylcystein - for the thick mucus
  6. Duavent - for the nebulizer
  7. Dexamethasone
  8. Robitussin Syrup - for the cough
  9. Vitamin C with Zinc

ACTIVITIES

  1. Deep breathing exercise 5 mins/day
  2. Back tapping every after nebulizer
  3. Steam Inhalation
  4. Lots of Rest

FOOD
Lots of food and fruits and water. We have tons of fruits especially lemon and other citrus fruits for Vitamin C.

COVID-19 is real. And I wish for everyone's (who got infected with the virus) fast recovery.
