Ride to the Mountains of Badian, South Cebu, Philippines

in OCD4 years ago (edited)

Hello OCD community,

For several months and due to many factors I just didn't feel like taking my scooter and going for a ride on the trails of South Cebu. A couple of weeks ago, I decided to change that and I finally went for it. It's only then that I realized I actually missed it.

You see, I really enjoy being on my own and just going wherever the wind takes me. I usually have a rough idea of which direction I will head to, but once I decide to take a turn from the main road, it's all at random. I do however tend to drive up towards the mountain. Why would you ask?

Well, for a few reasons:

  • It gets quieter and a bit colder
  • it's less populated
  • People seem genuinely friendlier and more welcoming
  • The views are just stunning.
  • but the most important is that I can really get a breath of fresh air because I'm totally surrounded by nature.

Sometimes I would come to a junction and decide based on my feelings whether to go left or right. The main thing is that I know I will either end up at a dead end where I will simply have to turn around or I will join another road/trail which will take me further, sometimes allowing me to go back towards the main road.

Last Friday, I headed towards Badian and then found a dirt road which I'd never driven on before.

The discovery began.

I liked how the path changed all the time. It alternated between concreted portions, dirt road, uphill rocky areas where the back wheel of my scooter would jump all the time, slippery paths where only 2 wheels vehicles can pass, etc...

I love slowing down and looking at the houses, the people's gardens, waving at the kids who are curious to see this foreigner in their "in the middle of nowhere" area. Sometimes the landscape is so beautiful that I just can't help but stop and take pictures. I thought I would share some of those photos with you.
All of them were taken in Badian Municipality but going up towards the mountains.

At one point, the road changed to some kind of a concreted driveway and I just found it so beautiful, calm and soothing that I couldn't help but stop for some pictures. I have already shared a couple of these photos in black & white here, but I thought It would be nice to share the colored ones too.

It lead me to the small valley you can see next and then a dead end where teenagers where playing volleyball on a small plaza surrounded by a few houses/huts. I just turned around and headed back down the mountain until I found a fork in the road and then discovered another area.

The whole trip took me about 2 hours an half and I can't wait for the next ride. Maybe I'll document my trip more thoroughly and take more pictures next time so my post can be more informative. Would you be interested?

See you around
