When the pandemic has started last year, I got into the hobby of making desserts and selling it online. I always watched vlogs on how to make desserts on Youtube before and never thought that I would also love doing it.
Last year, I wanted to sell a different dessert that is not usual in our place and I can't think of any but a Tiramisu. I didn't know how to make Tiramisu back then but I love exploring things even if it has so much risks on doing it.
Given by the actual process on how to make Tiramisu, I wasn't confident that mine would be good. My family was the first one who tried it and they said that it was delicious and I should sell it. I posted my first dessert on Facebook and got some people who bought it. It went good, I made profits and thought of making another one.
My mom supported me and she bought an oven where we can make some cakes. That was the time when I discovered that I also love baking. The first cake that I made was for my mom's birthday cake.
It was a simple chocolate cake filled with chocolate ganache. I was so excited when I baked my first chocolate cake because it was my gift for my mom. I followed the procedure on how to do it and I finally made my first chocolate cake. I thought baking would be easy but baking is all about timing. You should measure all the ingredients correctly and should wait patiently until your cake is finally ready.
After that chocolate cake that I baked for my Mom's birthday, I realized that I should bake more. It was followed by different tub cakes like Red Velvet, Blueberry Cheesecake, Black Forest, Tres Leches, Brigadeiro Cake, Dream Cake, and birthday cakes.
I named my small business as "Hannah's Treats" and posted every cake that I baked on Facebook. I got customers who bought the cakes that I have posted & actually liked it. Every week I made two different cakes, it depends on what my customers has requested.
The best selling cake that I have made was my Dream Cake and Red Velvet. They loved the taste of cream cheese on my Red Velvet and liked on how the cake was baked. For the Red Velvet frosting, I usually made my own version of Homemade Cream Cheese. Because of the limited stocks of Cream Cheese in our hometown, I have decided to made my own version. My homemade Cream Cheese is combined with boiled full-cream milk and lemon/vinegar. I loved how it taste like the Cream Cheese that we can buy on stores.
My customers also loved my Dream Cake. Among all the cakes that I have made, the Dream Cake is the hardest yet the very delicious cake that I have ever made. Dream cake should be made with the four important layers. First is the chocolate cake followed by the chocolate pudding, chocolate ganache, then chocolate disc dust with cocoa powder.
Baking requires you to be patient. You can't rush things in baking because every step requires a perfect timing. Especially on making your cake filling and waiting for your cake to be ready. It's always okay to have a messed up work in baking as long as it taught you on how to make the better one next time. Achieving the best outcome for your cake also depends on the quality of the ingredients that you are using. For me, it doesn't matter on how much the price of the ingredients would be as long as you satisfy your customers with the cakes that you sell.
I loved how baking made me happy during the pandemic. It was really fun and aside from that you can also earn money by selling what you've made. Baking will always be the other stuff that I love to do.
