The events and weeks leading up to HIVE was like re-living a one-year nightmare for me.
- life wasn't perfect but we got on with our lives
- then the iron fist started getting heavier
- promises looked as they were going to be broken
- things got worse, they twisted all the facts to make themselves look better
- they censored voices they didn't want to hear
- then they didn't care anymore, they just trashed everything
Sounds familiar?
That was Steem, and it's also real life in Hong Kong - today. This is the nightmare the people from Hong Kong have been, and still are living through. But here's where the similarity ends. Hong Kong is still fighting back.
The Steem community were luckier. We fought back, and we created a new world. One that we own and manage collectively, free of any iron fist. For most ex Steemians, Hive represents the true decentralised uncensored world we deserve.
For me, Hive means much more.
If the ex Steem community can do it, it is not impossible for the people of Hong Kong to do the same. That day will come. I'm pretty sure of it.
In the meanwhile, Steem was my home for over two years. But after Sun trashed it, it would never be the same again. There was no doubt whatsoever Hive would be my new home. Once I up all my roots on Steem, that will be it forever.
Until then ....
What do you want to see HIVE evolve into?
I want all the abuse to disappear. Ain't gonna happen, I know
I want Hive to be a spam-free community. That's a big ask
I want the voices of the mass to be listened to. Fair ask
I want circle jerk vote to stop, from abusers to whales. Please
I want less shit post. Make an effort
I want to be a Hive Whale. Sorry, got carried away
I want to see Hive to be a better place than Steem. Simple
Engagement and community are fundamental to how Hive operates. To a certain extent, community is what destroyed Steem, even before Sun came along. I started my Steem journey in the Chinese community, and I am forever grateful for the support from the old timers in the CN community. Then the CN community grew and the nature changed. For good or for bad depends on how you look at it and when you started on Steem. Genuine engagement and quality content creation started to dwindle.
My point is, if all the communities, be it language, topics or interest have a strong and responsible leader, the sum of the communities will be greater than the community as a whole. Take the Wuhan Virus now. You only need one selfish person in a community, one selfish community in the world, and that could break the entire system.
What do you think about having a large funded DAO for future HIVE development?
Is this the same as the intention of the ninja stake, and what the SPS was supposed to achieve? I just checked the SPS budget on Steem - SBD285,383.442. That was from the community's post payout, I hardly think the community would be getting it back.
How's the large funded DAO going to be funded? Out of post payout again? Voluntary contributions? Reducing the reward pool?
How would development funding be allocated? By DPoS? One person one vote? By committee?
An ecosystem, be it an organisation, a company, or a blockchain cannot stay stationary. This is especially so for technology. Things move so quickly and we need to keep on moving forward. Hive doesn't move by itself, people moves it. And that's where development comes in.
Nobody pays to use Hive, so any chain development cost has to come from somewhere. There's no free lunch in this world. Other than that, to be very honest, I have no idea about this at all.
I titled my post The end of a nightmare that is yet to come because this whole Sun issue on Steem is a repeat of the Hong Kong protest situation. The Hive nightmare has finished but not the Hong Kong one.

Hope you’ll be a whale very soon!
All the best.
I got a bit carried away 😉
Thank you all the same!
Oh! The dream should come true soon!
Good luck.

Hong Kong people can try relocating to Taiwan or Singapore. Once gained independence like Singaporeans, many problems can be solved. China refuse to grant independence to Hong Kong and Tibet due to many issues
Sadly unlike Hive who are in a virtual space, a physical move for Hong Kong will be very difficult if not impossible.
I think you've hit the nail on pride. Keeping face is such a big thing for the Chinese particularly when they think they should be ruling the world.
I like your want list. I agree with that fact that community is so much apart of the blockchain for me. I came in through @photogames and miss it and am glad that I still interact with many of those people.
I think the communities can make or break Hive, it would be great to see more co-ordination amongst community owners rather than operating in silos. This issue about not being able to resteem post across community is a classic example of how communities have to compete for post...
Lovely post.
Found this hilarious:
Guess with time, we need to onboard more writers / authors who trust in the Hive platform. I am personally looking forward to add my friends and other people journalist to the platform once I am confident of our direction.
Overall, loved that the old nightmare has come to an end - and a new hope is created. :)
One nightmare from Steem has ended, the HK still ongoing sadly.
I'm sure the Hive direction will continue to evolve, after all it goes where the community takes it.
Hopefully you will onboard you friends very soon, maybe they can contribute to the direction as well
My heart goes out to you... although I realize I will never completely understand what you are enduring, my hope and prayers are with you and the people of Hong Kong.
Thank you for your kind words
I want what you want, literally :)
