WHAT'S UP EVERYONE?

It's my first time posting something here in this community (hoping it wouldn't be the last).
It's also been more than a month since I posted something in HIVE. I'm kinda stuck up with all the events happening in my life - college stuff, pandemic and all. Nevertheless, I just wanna share to you guys this storybook I made in one of my courses in my program. We're not actually asked to make an illustration book. Our instructor only told us to be creative in telling our self-realizations during the pandemic. He gave us a month to do it so I told myself "why not make something I haven't tried yet?" I've already made some artworks before - you can check it in my wall if you have time :) - but I never tried making a storybook so I decided to make one and voila! Here we are.

SYNOPSIS

The story is entitled in Filipino "Gusto kong Lumabas" which literally translates into "I Want to Go out". It's about a boy that apparently desires to go out amidst a lockdown but before that, it is unknown to him why they are not allowed to do so. The first half of the story tackles about the things he has done during those days of being restricted to go out. After then, he got bored of those things and ran out of activities to do. Followed by some unusual events, he realized in the end what it means to follow the rules.

PROCESS

I started it with a simple storyboard or how I want the pages of the book to look like in general. I'm no professional to this so I just made it the way I understand it.

After then, I started transferring the frames to the app I used to draw. If you're interested to use it, It's called Infinite Design. It's the app I use to all of my artworks. In there, I was able to bring my ideas to life by giving it colors. Before then, I was thinking of the style I'd like to use to make the illustration book. I was originally planning to make it with watercolor and draw it to another app but I was still inexperienced with it so I decided to make it in a paper cut style because it's what I'm somehow versed with.

In this style, outline is not a necessary thing. As long as you can make it in the shape that you want, add shadows and layer it in the right position, the outcome will come good as you thought of. The only hard thing here is recognizing the position of the layers and where to put it. Nonetheless, everything was easy peasy. I decided to make the graphics simpler and more distinct so it would not be overwhelming and yeah, I'm satisfied with how the outcome ended up.

AUTHOR'S NOTE

Nothing so important in here. I just really wanna say thank you to all of the people who appreciates my works here in HIVE. It just means much to me to share all of this to other people. I'm just so grateful with this amazing platform that enables anyone not just to earn but also to express things they like and passionate about. That's all :). You guys can make some suggestions on how I could improve some things in my work. Thanks and have a nice day!
