While I haven't been on STEEM from the very start, I did join way back in 2017. Since that time I have seen the same issues repeating themselves over and over again. From what I have seen those same issues were going on since the very beginning.
Since yesterday the majority of that community has moved to HIVE and while everybody is celebrating the victory of getting away from STEEM and Justin this only really means that we have the same people in a different place. So in my opinion this is a make or break time.
Please, please, please.....
Lets not repeat the same mistakes of the past. A lot of brilliant people have been driven from the chain in my time due to the selfish actions of large stake holders and the blatant abuse of the system on a large scale. We all now have a responsibility to make HIVE a success and this won't happen if we keep doing the same old things in the same old ways.
We've gotten rid of a lot of the spammers who were trying to abuse our reward pool.
We've gotten rid of most of the bid-bots that were profiting from bad content and washing money.
We have also gotten rid of thousands of committed users through flagging for the wrong reasons. Through attacking people with a different opinion to themselves. Through voting selfishly for a closed circle of people. Through a lack of engagement with users. Through having an overly complicated system for regular users to get involved.
I'm not calling out specific users and I've done some of these things myself over my time on the chain but have tried my best to operate in a better manner and help grow users when I can. With that said I am only a small user here on HIVE doing what i can to keep it interesting and fun for others with my stake. We do however have some very large stakeholders that carry a far larger responsibility to the community to change their habits.
At this moment in time we have serious momentum starting the new chain as everybody in the crypto world has seen the STEEM/Justin drama and we have seen more publicity from major publications over the past month than in the whole time I have been on the chain. We have support from some of the major exchanges that owe us a favor after the mess we were landed in. We have a renewed enthusiasm from users returning to the chain when they saw the fight was happening.
These things are priceless to a start up project. You can't buy the support and publicity that we have right now.
We have a fresh start. Please don't fuck it up.
Momentum is huge with any project so why not take this wave we are on and use it to form some better habits and do better than last time.
With 50/50 Curation we can spread the rewards to the smaller users. We don't need to see the same 20 people auto-trending every day with the same content about STEEM. Why not follow a smaller curation trail that has people searching into the smaller corners of the chain and passing out small rewards to a lot more people. Help to decentralize further and strengthen our community. We are far too top heavy and always have been. For a strong community there needs to be a more stable base with a reasonable amount of stake. A $10 dollar post means so much more to a minnow than it ever will to a whale.
When I started on STEEM there was a much larger user base which has steadily drifted off through a drop in price and actions of other users but with that we have lost a lot of engagement and interest in the posts being written. Can we try to create more fun and interesting content rather that hive centric posts to engage and create discussion.
Get back to creating content for people to enjoy rather than for trying to catch votes. Hopefully communities will help us with this as we need a place for new users to go and find their space in HIVE.
What we do need from the developers and witnesses is a simpler system for people to use. Less is more in user terms. You can tinker around with the systems as much as you want but to keep a happy and active community it needs to be clear and simple to use.

Basic things that we have seen talked about for three years but still not implemented. We have had multiple reward curves, changes to infrastructure, back end developments ect.... But the main website that every person came to join was never updated or improved for their experience. Not until just before the hard fork anyway.
We had been moving on a progressive curve over the past year which made this so much worse but hopefully we can use that as a base to launch hive even further forward with this momentum. Hopefully this leads to new users and growth but it will all be worth nothing if we don't do better than in the past.
Let's do our best and see how far we can take the project.
Lol I'm not going to be a debbie downer and keep my mouth shut for now and see how it goes but if it doesn't go anywhere best believe you'll hear about it, but we now only have ourselves and our oligarchy we support to blame lol
Also, anyone knows why posts still go to the steem blockchain too? Did you just post on both or something? I've had to make separate comments?
I dropped the post on both for now. I've seen some automatically posting to both but i used steempeak and it didn't show up on hive so had to double post it.
I hope that everybody has learned form past mistakes as like you say. It's all on us now as to where the chain goes next. There is no steemit.inc to blame or fall back onto just the devs here.
I'm one of those who've just returned and hoping for a growing, fun, vibrant, and eclectic community that I'd once hoped Steem could foster.
I'll keep posting & learning, and hopefully in a few years we'll all be looking back at something we're all amazingly proud of. It's up to us really.
That's exactly the attitude i think we will need to grow and thrive. There are lot of people concerned with development but we need even more focused on creating and user retention. If a place is enjoyable to spend your time that's where you will be.
Rewards or no rewards.
There are lots of massive sites with no rewards that have a huge user base because they offer a great experience. We need to have a better experience for everybody and that comes from the top down as the people with the most stake have the most say in how it operates. Attitude reflects leadership and there has been a terrible attitude in the past but we have a fresh chance to do better on hive.
No chance.
There's already no correlation whatsoever between quality of post and reward.
There is a chance but it's a long shot. As i said it's the same old people just in a shiny new place. They mistreated the last home we had so it will take a lot for them to change attitude and mind this one better. However if it's going to happen it needs to be from the start before the bad habits set in.

I would love to have written this post as it is full of my hopes and dreams. Rehiving is best I can do and upvoting with my little stake. I really hope that it won't fall on deaf ears but from I've seen already we are in for more of the same, for a while anyway.
Lets make Hive into something that is not just about Hive.
This is our best chance to do it better second time round. If people fall back into the old habits we will end up in thee same place as before. Especially while everybody is back engaged and thinking about community it's a chance to change peoples mentality.
People and content will be a big part of that and I know from yours that it's more of what we need on here with a little advertisement to get more people in.
The bigger accounts will really have to do the the heavy lifting to make this an attractive place for content creators.
Building a library where the most read books are about the library will end in tears yet again.
I am thinking that from now on I will only reward content that is not Hive related. I will instead concentrate on the art community as I believe this is one area I can help grow and it will help bring colour to the chain. My upvote is small but it will be more appreciated there.
I wish you well LOL. You know how it works😉
So Be It
