Some part of the community can be found along the lagoon on stilts and also on land. It can also be called the "Venice of Lagos" as it is surrounded by water. When your passing the 3rd mainland bridge, one can see the Makoko fully.
The water in Makoko is dark.
But how do this people move about? Transport in Makoko is mainly by canoe, Every household have theirs, which is used for daily activities and also taking their children to school. Makoko schools can be found on water and on land.
Makoko people are hustlers, they engage in various activities, living on water, one can say they are fishermen and women, yes, most of them depend on the water for survival, they sell their fishes whether smoked or fresh, their fishing nets and canoes are constructed by them to enable them move around on the water, they also partake in making firewoods sand dredging.
