Have you heard of the Dunning-Kruger Effect. The Dunning-Kruger effect is a person's illusion of knowledge. In the early phase, when he knew very little. he immediately exploded feeling that the information he had just learned represented the entirety of the knowledge in the field (actually it wasn't). In this phase he usually talks a lot as if he knows something best.

However, over time he realized that there were many aspects that he did not know, so his confidence decreased. To the point where he had learned enough and experienced enough, he began to be confident in the knowledge he had and his confidence to talk a lot began to rise again. Maybe most of us immediately remember the saying "empty barrels make a loud sound" which means that stupid or ignorant people (empty) usually talk a lot (loud voice).

Well, with the research of David Dunning & Justin Kruger, this proverb is scientifically proven through the theory of the Dunning-Kruger Effect. Perhaps the difference is that all this time I thought that "empty barrels make loud noises" only affected people who were uneducated, or not smart enough. While the Dunning-Kruger Effect can be experienced by anyone, including me. After reflecting on it, I realized that often when I start learning something, my confidence in that area is usually very high.

It was as if I was the most knowledgeable and understanding among the general public on the topic. Especially if the knowledge discussed is specific and not many people know it. But as time goes on, the more we learn and live, we are forced to humble ourselves because of the fact that there is so much we don't know and haven't learned. Confidence also decreases. We are aware that there are many people who are smarter and more understanding than us. We are nothing compared to them. Because we know we are still "stupid", it encourages us to keep learning. Gradually we learn new tricks, shortcuts, and insights. This gives us more confidence on the pitch, but at the same time we remain aware that we are still nothing compared to the masters on the pitch.

Maybe that's why in Dunning-Kruger Effect even though we feel we are very experienced and master the field (already Expert), our confidence is still not 100%. Because as good or as good as we are in a field, we are increasingly aware that there are still people who are smarter than us and more and more we don't know, have not studied, or have not discovered. Until we come to the saying "Like rice, the more it contains, the more it bends"
