¡Hola a todos! He estado perdida en estos últimos días, pero mi ausencia se debió a una festividad muy conocida en Venezuela y resaltada en el oriente venezolano. Yo soy del estado Nueva Esparta, y aquí se celebra cada año el Día de la Virgen del Valle, precisamente éste se cumplieron los 110 años de la canonización de la Virgen y 100 años como Patrona de Oriente. Más que explicarles acerca de la celebración o las costumbres, quiero relatarles mi experiencia personal ya que fue algo muy especial para mí.
Hello everyone! I have been lost these last days, but my absence was due to a very well known festivity in Venezuela and highlighted in the Venezuelan east. I am from Nueva Esparta state, and here the Day of the Virgin of the Valley is celebrated every year, precisely this year was the 110th anniversary of the canonization of the Virgin and 100 years as Patroness of the East. More than explaining about the celebration or the customs, i want to tell you about my personal experience since it was something very special for me.
Este año ha estado lleno de dificultades en la familia y todo se tornó más difícil, pero aún así el 08 a las 2:30 de la madrugada salimos familiares y vecinos caminando desde nuestras casas hasta el Valle, llegamos a las 5:30 de la mañana porque el viaje era largo con varias subidas y bajadas. Esta es la primera vez que voy, mi abuelo era quien siempre iba con mi mamá cada año (menos el pasado por motivos de precaución con la pandemia), pero ahora iré yo por el. Lastimosamente no pude tomarle fotos al camino en esas horas, las calles se encontraban alumbradas en la mayor parte del camino, aunque en varias ocasiones se tornó tenebroso porque no había luz en varios trechos. La caminata cansó mucho, pero algo que me motivó muchísimo más para seguir es que, había un grupo de chicos festejando y entre ellos salió una pequeña niña de unos 5 años, ella me regaló una pequeña imagen de la Virgen y fue uno de los gestos más tiernos y puros que he presenciado.
This year has been full of difficulties in the family and everything became more difficult, but still on 08 at 2:30 in the morning we left family and neighbors walking from our homes to the Valley, we arrived at 5:30 in the morning because the trip was long with several ups and downs. This is the first time I go, my grandfather was the one who always went with my mom every year (except last year for precautionary reasons with the pandemic), but now I will go for him. Unfortunately I could not take pictures of the road at that time, the streets were lit most of the way, although on several occasions it became dark because there was no light in several stretches. The walk was very tiring, but something that motivated me even more to continue was that there was a group of boys celebrating and among them came out a little girl of about 5 years old, she gave me a small image of the Virgin and it was one of the most tender and pure gestures I have witnessed.
Esto es lo que me regaló la niña. // This is what the child gave me.Otra cosa que nos sacó lágrimas de alegría a muchos fue el poder observar el momento preciso en el que la figura de la Virgen salió de la iglesia cargada por varios hombres y con muchas rosas rosadas, para llevarla al lugar en donde se haría la misa, que por la pandemia, sólo asistirían los pastores de distintas iglesias y la prensa para que todos desde casa la pudiesen ver.
Another thing that brought tears of joy to many of us was to be able to observe the precise moment when the figure of the Virgin left the church carried by several men and with many pink roses, to take her to the place where the mass would be held, which because of the pandemic, only pastors from different churches and the press would attend so that everyone from home could see it.
Luego de eso tuvimos que caminar de vuelta durante una hora más para poder tomar un autobús a nuestras casas, como llevábamos camisas con el logo de la Virgen y el lugar desde el que veníamos, muchas personas de por allí nos saludaron, resaltó mucho un señor mayor que iba trotando (no sé si había alguna carrera o si se encontraba pagando una promesa a la Virgen) y nos bendijo a todas, además de decirnos que luego nos veríamos. Esta celebración sin dudas nos une mucho más como población.
After that we had to walk back for another hour to take a bus to our homes, as we were wearing shirts with the logo of the Virgin and the place we were coming from, many people around there greeted us, an older man who was jogging (I do not know if there was a race or if he was paying a promise to the Virgin) and blessed us all, and told us that we would see each other later. This celebration undoubtedly unites us much more as a population.
Llegamos a casa como a las 9 de la mañana. El día finalizó con una celebración y el usual cumpleaños hacia la Virgen, estuvimos un buen rato decorando y cocinando para crear un buen momento entre vecinos, además de realizar el respectivo rezo.
We arrived home around 9 am. The day ended with a celebration and the usual birthday to the Virgin, we spent a long time decorating and cooking to create a good time among neighbors, in addition to the respective prayer.
Ahora bien, lo que me tomó muchos días fue que, una persona donó 30 figuras de la Virgen, estas se encontraban un poco viejas, entonces una tía se dedicó a quitarles el polvo para luego dármelas y yo poder pintarlas todas desde el inicio para así entregarlas a quienes asistieron. El trabajo se me complicó porque la pintura blanca no quería mantenerse sino que le salían manchas rosas, pero no me rendí hasta que las pude terminar todas.
Now, what took me many days was that a person donated 30 figures of the Virgin, these were a little old, then an aunt was dedicated to remove the dust and then give them to me and I could paint them all from the beginning to deliver them to those who attended. The work was complicated because the white paint did not want to stay on, but pink spots came out, but I did not give up until I was able to finish them all.
Lo que más me agradó fue el hecho de poder compartir más con quienes me rodean y con personas desconocidas que básicamente se unieron para formar una comunidad unida por una misma causa, por un mismo sentimiento, poder ver la felicidad y la gratitud en la cara de las personas es algo inigualable y que no siempre se puede apreciar. Es un sentimiento muy lindo el poder ver a las personas que, a pesar de tener alguna discapacidad, llegaron al Valle para poder agradecer por sus peticiones, ves la esperanza en sus ojos y puedes llegar a entender porqué esa persona se sacrificó tanto sólo para ir a ver una figura, porque esta figura es lo más cercano que tienen para expresar su agradecimiento además de su propia fe.
What pleased me most was the fact of being able to share more with those around me and with strangers who basically came together to form a community united for the same cause, for the same feeling, to see the happiness and gratitude on the faces of people is something unique and that can not always be appreciated. It is a very nice feeling to see people who, despite having a disability, came to the Valley to thank for their petitions, you see the hope in their eyes and you can understand why that person sacrificed so much just to go to see a figure, because this figure is the closest thing they have to express their gratitude in addition to their own faith.
Yo aún sigo muy feliz por todo lo que sucedió y por eso les relato lo que viví este 08 de septiembre del 2021, sé que quizás a algunos no les puede llegar a interesar el tema porque evidentemente no todos creemos en lo mismo y eso está bien, igual fue un día muy diferente que sólo ocurre una vez al año, por eso he decidido compartirlo con todos ustedes. Desde entonces aún hemos tenido rezos y el internet que utilizo se había dañado, pero ya solucioné y espero estar más activa de nuevo para enseñarles todo. También espero hayan tenido un buen día así sea en sus casitas, cuídense mucho, les aseguro que nosotros siempre usábamos nuestro tapaboca y todos teníamos alcohol para desinfectarnos, es algo primordial actualmente, ¡gracias por leer!
