The first HIVE convert

in OCD5 years ago (edited)

Like anyone, I enjoy milestones and this one is reaching 80,000 HIVE - a solid number. What I am hoping though is that if I am able, I can move STEEM into hive and increase this further. One of the problems I have had in the past is diversification however, and I reduced my diversity further by converting into STEEM and powering up to vote on the real Steem witnesses. I think that with my powerdowns, I will keep some in BTC and maybe some ETH.

I also think that the current prices are due to lack of liquidity with the wallets mostly closed, as well as the hype of the new chain. And of course, people converting their STEEM to HIVE, which means that they are likely converting into Bitcoin and then trading for the airdropped HIVE on the exchanges, which isn't necessarily a great amount, especially on Bittrex that left it very late to announce they were going to honor the airdrop.

So for now, I am not trading for HIVE at all - except I am converting HBD for HIVE.

As I mentioned a couple days ago and promised I would get back to, I have HIVE in conversion and was wondering what kind of rate I was going to get.

It seems that it is taking the internal price of ~0.19 and there is no haircut on the SBD at all, meaning it is calculated at $1.00. That means that for the 10 HBD I converted, I got a little over 52 HIVE. HBD is meant to be a stable coin, so it should always be around the $1 mark, but that is far from guaranteed.

What this means is that currently, the price is about 20% cheaper if buying HIVE with HBD internally. Remember that there is a 3.5 day wait from the start of conversion, so all of these prices can fluctuate. For now though, I am pretty happy getting that kind of rate on the HBD I have and I have put more into conversion hoping that I can outperform the markets, even though I am not trading directly for HIVE.

I am hoping that over the next few months, I will be able to close in on 100K HIVE through trading and writing. My goal with the writing side of that is to be able to have a little fun as well as add something of value into the community, something that people can use to improve their own experiences here, or elsewhere.

While general quality is subjective and impossible to evaluate, maintaining an audience over time requires consistency, as they at least have to find it interesting enough to keep reading. As a contributor, it is my task to entertain, but that doesn't mean that I have to be the funny one, or the drama queen - thankfully - if I can add something that helps people often enough. For me, the helping is a win-win position, because at least for me, I like helping where I think I can and the feeling that it is having some effect.

I think with all of the IRL pressures now and upcoming, I will also add some more personal content again, my views about various bits of life I have the opportunity to observe. It is enjoyable content for me and I think it allows for a good conversation to develop as well as relationships to build. We might not always agree - but that is okay.

Now though, I'll call it a night and chill a little before hitting the sack. Hopefully though, this post answers some of the simple questions about the HBD conversion and the rate.

Congrats on 80k! I've always dreamed of becoming an orca — only 6k away now. I started some HBD conversion requests a few days ago and doing 30 HBD at a time every 12 hours or so. Hoping to get 5:1 or 4:1 on that. Good that you write about it since a lot of people aren't aware how viable this is when HBD is trading under $1 as it is now.

Yeah, I have been putting a little each day into the conversion and have about 100 all up there.

Damn, I was going to mention this and didn't. Thanks!!

I had noticed SBD wasn't pumping as hard as STEEM before the fork so decided to buy 300 with BTC to get 300 HBD. Looking back, I wish I would have got even more but I wasn't thinking about internal conversion and... well.. lots of unknowns when speculating! Cheers.

Oh, that is smart. I was thinking about buying some for the trade only too, but shied away from it at the last moment. Silly :)

Congrats on your new milestone. Full Hive Ahead.

Thanks for the helpful article. Now I will convert my HBD.

A few questions. What front end are you using? I've been searching for a site to track votes, HP, delegations and so on but havent found much yet. I do need to sit down for a few hours, take a deep dive into HIVE to figure everything out but just want to get a feel for what people are using and how they are managing their accounts.

I am using peakd.com and hive.blog

There isn't afaik an account tracker yet.

Steemnow.com and select the anyx node gives some info

Cheers amigo

This sounds really promising. I was not sure one could do that, power down SP and convert it to hive/HP

Blocktrades has a direct gateway I think

Wow!!! that's a good "discount"...it's a pity I don't have so much HBD, thanks for the post!

Yeah it is I think. No worries mate. Remember fluctuations can happen in the 3.5 day conversion time - it is a bit of risk assessment :)

If HBD withdrawals were opened on bittrex it would be a good arbitration opportunity

A very enthusiastic and promising publication. I feel encouraged! I hope that the calculations do not fail. Greetings, @tarazkp

I think the calculations for this post are okay, not sure if I get more complex though :)

Congratulations and right, I'm off to click that convert button for a little more!

I agree with you on the lack of liquidity, at some point a whole load of HIVE is going to come slushing into the exchanges, once those wallets go live!

Yep, I figure that at the point those who want out sell, I can get in :)

I kind of like the idea of having one whole BTC, if the Steem price maintains itself, that might be a possibility for me!

I'm also now considering shit posting on Steem to earn me some cash for Splinterlands cards going forwards... it's a nice way of buying a few more!

Go on - Convert me

That is some awesome sauce ehehe

Well I'm glad I kind of followed and am in the process of converting the tiny amount of HBD I had, (less than 1), it will be nice to have that extra Hive to add to my balance.

Nice 80 000. I have got some HBD as well and will have a dabble at the conversion. I was planning to load up everything on Hive but think a couple of other coins is the smart way to think. Eggs all in one basket scenario and I need Bitcoin at least.

Dude that's sick!

Great job. And that 100K Hive should be a reality for you

I want to convert steem to Hive. How do I do that right now?

You can trade Steem for Hive at https://blocktrades.us.

Done! Thank you!

Thanks for your good writing. As I read your writing, I understand a bit about Steem, Hive, and Bitcoin.

Holy shit man that's a big chunk of HIVE for sure! Wonder if I'll ever get to that point as well someday, haha.

I for one still have about 1000 HIVE to power down and consolidate over to this account, so even reaching 10K would be a huge milestone for me.

I hope that the community will be as supportive as it has been over the past week and slowly but surely, between creating great valuable content, curation and some occasional HIVE power ups I'll get to that milestone.

Wish you all the best as well and keep up the great work!

congrats on the 80K. remarkable already.
as to steem and hive buy & sells, eh IDK.
But from the sounds of your future posts,
I look forward to your future efforts
