An enjoyable moment sketching a Tiger

in GEMS5 years ago

Earlier today, I was challenged to make a sketch of a Tiger since I don’t have a clue. It was my girlfriend’s suggestion. She laughed at me when I scratched my head and doubtful about having a tiger as my subject. I just thought that there are so many details that I needed to consider for the drawing. Luckily there are a bunch of references over the internet that helped me realized the patterns on the Tiger’s face.

I have to be very honest that it was intimidating at first and I didn’t have a clear idea of how to start the sketch. Somehow I managed to make a move on my first strokes using my 2B mechanical pencil.

I started with the outlines of the eyes and the patterns all over its face.

After drawing all the outlines, I started the deep shading of the pupil & eyelids. The patterns on the face followed which is quite easy.

I feel that the challenge was the grading of the shades to achieve a monochromatic effect of the sketch. I had to be very careful in maintaining the tone of my shading.

After completing the pencil shading. I scanned my drawing and then exported it to Photoshop to enhance the contrast of the image and played around the tools & filters to achieve the final result.

Finally, I added some orange tint on the scanned image to achieve the colorized version of my sketch. That’s it.

Thanks for looking into my work.
Have a good day/night!
