Holaa amigos de HIVE, como andan? Hoy les traigo una historia de como le colocamos agua potable a una comunidad de mi estado que tenia muchos años sin acceso a ella // Hello friends of HIVE, how are you? Today I bring you a story of how we put drinking water in a community in my state that had no access to it for many years.
Como ya les había contado, soy voluntaria en una organización sin fines de lucro llamada Cruz Roja Venezolana. Aquí tenían un proyecto que se llevo acabo en agosto, 2019.
Fue un arduo trabajo de 4 días sin parar en esa comunidad haciendo la instalación del tanque principal y haciendo las pruebas de PH al agua.
As I have already told you, I am a volunteer in a non-profit organization called the Venezuelan Red Cross. Here they had a project that took place in August 2019.
It was a hard work of 4 days without stopping in that community doing the installation of the main tank and doing the PH tests to the water.
Las personas de esta comunidad para obtener agua debían caminar mas o menos 1km y tomaban agua de una quebrada de la cual no le hacían ningún tipo de mantenimiento.
Nuestro trabajo fue básicamente hacer una instalación de una tuberia que fuera desde la quebrada hasta el centro de la comunidad donde finalizaba con un tanque que tenia unas pastillas potabilizadoras para tener como resultado un agua optima para el consumo humano.
The people of this community to obtain water had to walk more or less 1km and drank water from a stream which they did not do any type of maintenance.
Our work was basically to install a pipe that went from the creek to the center of the community where it ended with a tank that had some water purification tablets to result in optimal water for human consumption.
Contamos con el apoyo de voluntarios, directores y de las personas de la comunidad que fueron amables y siempre tenían ganas de ayudar. Fue un trabajo bastante fuerte de 4 porque debíamos pasar horas y horas haciendo las pruebas para observar si el agua era optima, ademas la instalación de tubos y tanque no fue nada fácil pero nada nos detenía porque sabíamos que el resultado iba a valer la pena.
También les enseñamos como era un correcto uso del agua, como debían lavarse las manos correctamente y como lavar los alimentos.
We had the support of volunteers, principals, and people in the community who were kind and always eager to help. It was a pretty strong job of 4 because we had to spend hours and hours doing the tests to see if the water was optimal, also the installation of tubes and tank was not easy but nothing stopped us because we knew that the result would be worth it.
We also taught them how to use water correctly, how they should wash their hands correctly and how to wash food.
Fue una experiencia bastante gratificante, ver a todas esas personas con una sonrisa al ver que ya no tenían que caminar tantos km por unos pocos litros de agua, ademas que me enseño a valorar cada cosa que tenia y que otros no podían tener acceso a ellas.
Ademas que conocí a personas increíbles, trabajadoras, que nada los detiene, jugamos con los niños y también les enseñamos diferentes temas sobre agua y saneamiento.
It was a very gratifying experience, seeing all those people with a smile when they saw that they no longer had to walk so many km for a few liters of water, also that it taught me to value everything that I had and that others could not have access to them.
Besides that I met incredible people, hardworking, that nothing stops them, we played with the children and we also taught them different topics about water and sanitation.
