Help get my son to the European Cup for Climbing!

in OCD5 days ago (edited)

So if you read my previous blog you will know that in September my son got 6th place in the Open division at Nationals for Climbing. We are so proud of him and his achievements. He went from a brand new skinny kid climber in January 2023 to a strong young man in 2025.

So now we need your help.

In February this year we were notified that Seth had been selected to represent South Africa at 2 European Cup competitions, 20-22 June in Campitello di Fassa, Italy and 4-6 July in Ostermundigen, Switzerland.

If you know South Africa then you know that our Exchage rate is pretty terrible and our Sporting Federations don’t give any financial support whatsoever, so it’s up to us to fundraise to cover rhe costs of the trip. We have already raised R50 000 and that covered the flights so now we need to raise another R72 000 to cover accommodation, local transport and food.

PLEASE VOTE OR DONATE
By voting for this post it will cost you nothing but if we can get up to $1000 then that will cover almost R20 000 of the trip. Feel free to vote or donate.

I have included a link to the official Instagram post with all fundraising details and a bit more about Seth.

BUSINESS SPONSORS
If any businesses would like to sponsor we will be making T-shirts with sponsors logos to be worn throughout the trip as well as tagging businesses on Instagram and Facebook for added exposure.

Climbing is a new Olympic Sport and is quickly gaining huge audiences, especially in Europe, the US and Asia. The events will be livestreamed via the IFSC YouTube channel.

If you have any questions. Please feel free to drop me a comment and I can respond asap. We would love to collaborate.

From a fellow climber, he looks like he’s pretty amazing! Good luck raising the money, sent a little bit your way through a vote!

I can picture my son doing this one day, he’s several years younger than yours but he’s been loving climbing and it’s going on 2 years now! Many more to come for sure.

Aaaaah! Thank you. My son has only been climbing 3 years but he started at 16. I wish we had found climbing sooner but the fact that he is getting this opportunity is insane! We’re so excited for him. We booked the flights by faith so now we need to raise the rest. Praying it all comes in. Thanks for helping!

I've been following South Africa a bit between Hive posters and my new favorite boot brand (Jim Green!) discussing the costs associated with imports, exports, and regulatory burdens. It may be a burden to fund sports independently, but it's your burden. You owe no nationalistic sporting federation either. They can't cancel you, right?

This is amazing! I'm not a climber my self, but I admire these guys! It just so happened that I captured two climbers that I shared the images of in my last post, during our visitvto Table Mountain in December. I saw them just as we were about to come down from the mountain.
I wish your son great success in this competition!! You have reason to be proud!!

Thanks so much! We know all The local Climbers so Most likely we know the guys that you photographed.

Yes, I never even thought of it that way, but it would make sense to me that you would probably know the guys!

I can't do much as my vote isn't that worthy, but I hope a reblog can help someone big find this post and helps.

I wish you can raise your funds so Seth can participate in these European tournaments. All the best for you.

Thank you! We have 1/3 of the funds so we need to raise the rest by June. Hopefwe will get there. I will keep blogging every day until then.
