[Update] More Privacy for our Users, More detailed Searching and more…

We value the privacy of the HIVE community very much – @Action-Chain

Saying this sentence even though we run a service that suggests content using sensitive data is a bit complicated. One could even say "bizarre", because such sentences are also used in other social media, although everyone knows that extremely personal data is handled with gross negligence. This was shown once again by the last Dataleak…

Nevertheless, we think we can say this sentence, almost with pride, because we are continuously working on it: We have recently completely restructured our database so that sensitive information is stored separately from names or identification numbers. This is how we hope to achieve more backend privacy. But other things have also been happening in the background. In addition, we have created a way to change the privacy settings using Custom Json Operations. From now on, anyone who does not want their posts to be listed can do so in the settings on our site (without having to log in):

    1. Go to our Page (here) in the Settings and keep an eye out for "Ban me"
    2. Click on the button; a window should open where you have to enter your username
    3. Next, you will be directed to HiveSigner to sign and publish the transaction
    4. From now on, it will take a few minutes at most. After that, all your content is deleted forever

In the same window, you can also release yourself if you have changed your mind.
Please note: We do not record all votes from every account. Only from those who have registered! So this function is more for keeping your posts out of the search permanently

More detailled Search

After our last feedback round, we could hear that our search needs optimisation. Firstly, we have speeded up the search engine. Before, it took up to 30 seconds for a result to come back. Now it only takes 1.5 seconds on average, which will be shortened again in the future. We also took the initiative and created a more detailed search. You can now set the author, time span and language as you wish. We also offer several sorting options such as Score, Latest, Oldest or Personalised. Personalised is special: here all results are weighted according to your account and interesting content for you is placed higher. However, this feature can only be used if you register (where else would the data come from?!). It is also still being tested, so feel free to write us your feedback on it!
As @juanmolina suggested, we now have the first wildcard character. With the help of a "-" in front of a word, you can exclude it. In the following image, you can see the search for "gaming" posts, which are not about shooters.

It is also noticeable that the time span is from 14 January to 24 April automatically setted. This is because we only collect posts (and therefore activities) from the last 100 days. Everything after that is deleted.

These were the results of our last work, which we are proud to present to you. You can use our service under this Link! Have a look 😁
Of course, this is not the end. We still have a lot of plans:

  • Include images / maybe even an own photo feed
  • Provide a public API, so that popular Front-Ends can integrate HiveDiscover
  • Much more...

On that note, stay tuned for our next post!
Best regards - ActionChain

Hello @action-chain
I have not explored well this tool you present, I think I only used it once. I must confess though, when something facilitates a process, adds value in something, it is worth knowing. Talking about privacy nowadays is very impressive, as we are living in times where the limits of privacy are crossed very often and without consent.
