On our wonderful community last week I read a very interesting article about the importance of reading and I know for sure that reading is a very important part of human life, it is easy to differentiate a reader from a person who does not know how to read books, the traits of the two individuals is shown in the way they speak and even in the way that they act. Reading is healthy but the kids we have these days do not like to read, so many parents often complain about their children finding it as a boring activity to read, if reading is healthy and our kids are not reading we have to find a way to get them to read.
The reason why some kids do not find reading interesting is often because they were not trained with books, while growing up their parents preferred to play music or watch cartons with them and not even read them a book at all, it is only normal for such a child to find music and movies very attracting but despise the act of reading, whatsoever a child has been trained with is what he will end up finding useful in the long run.
Apart from that, every child has a particular niche of interest, if a child is finding it difficult to read a book it might be because the child has not gotten a book that is interesting to him, looking for the area of interest of that child and buying a book that will make the child love books will help the child get more conversant with reading.
You might also be making the mistake of buying books that are too advanced for the age of the child without your knowledge especially if you are a new Mum, check the internet to find out articles that are within the level of your child’s age group will be able to understand.
You can also make reading fun by getting involved in the reading space of your child and make the process of reading more fun and understandable. Just like you have your own work space at home, also create a reading spot for your child to learn, create a subconscious mentality in the child to always go to that reading space when it is time to study.
As a good parent, you can study how well your child likes to learn, some children learn faster through visual contents, others through text, it might also be audio and video contents so this makes it a better option to know the channel through which the child learns fast and teach the child in that direction. Parenting is not an easy task and that is the reason why it remains important to get mentally and physically ready for the task of being a parent before having one.
