En el año 2020 luego de las elevadas cifras de contagio del Covid-19, la organización mundial de la salud declara pandemia al inicialmente brote del virus, esta decisión afectó y sigue afectando actualmente de manera significativa toda la economía en general y la industria musical no se salva de dicha situación.

La cancelación de eventos, el cierre de establecimientos de comercio y el control de aglomeraciones son algunas de las medidas que han afectado negativamente la industria de la música, según datos económicos la industria musical tiene un valor mundial de 50 mil millones de dolares , y los ingresos se dividen en 2 grandes formas , la primera de estas son los ingresos por conciertos y eventos públicos lo cual representa aproximadamente el 50%, y el restante son ingresos por ventas de discos, publicidad, plataformas virtuales etc.
Con estos datos nos damos cuenta la importancia que tienen los conciertos, recitales, y presentaciones musicales en espacios abiertos o cerrados, que se han visto limitados por las restricciones de los diferentes gobiernos a nivel mundial.
Por otro lado, se ha evidenciado una transformación del medio utilizado para dar eventos públicos, pues gracias a la tecnología diferentes artistas han podido presentarse aprovechando las diferentes plataformas virtuales que permiten dar conciertos en vivo, esto sin duda ha frenado un poco el impacto económico en los artistas.
Sin embargo, los músicos que no son tan conocidos y que muchos hacen parte del sector informal han sido los más golpeados, por ejemplo, cantantes que su principal fuente de ingresos era dada por las presentaciones nocturnas en bares se han visto severamente afectados pues la prohibición de eventos nocturnos con aglomeraciones limita la demanda de dichos artistas, por lo que estas personas se tienen que ingeniar otras maneras de vivir mientras estas prohibiciones disminuyen.

He tenido la oportunidad de hablar con diferentes artistas que hacen parte de este sector informal y manifiestan que muchos de ellos han dejado de cantar y se han dedicado a otras actividades económicos, pues sencillamente no hay demanda de su trabajo, además muchos otros han decidido hacerse en parques e ir de casa en casa pidiendo una ayuda económica a cambio de un breve concierto en barrios.
Sin duda la pandemia ha empobrecido significativamente a este sector económico, sin embargo, pienso que todo debe terminar y que luego de que pase esta lamentable situación (quizás tome muchos años), los músicos serán más fuertes y estarán diversificados en el mundo digital.

However, musicians who are not so well known and who many are part of the informal sector have been the hardest hit, for example, singers that their main source of income was given by evening performances in bars have been severely affected as the ban on night events with crowds limits the demand of such artists, so these people have to figure out other ways of living while these prohibitions decrease.

I have had the opportunity to talk to different artists who are part of this informal sector and state that many of them have stopped singing and have engaged in other economic activities, because there is simply no demand for their work, in addition many others have decided to take over in parks and go from house to house asking for financial help in exchange for a short concert in neighborhoods.
No doubt the pandemic has significantly impoverished this economic sector, but I think that everything should be over and that after this unfortunate situation passes (perhaps it will take many years), the musicians will be stronger and diversified in the digital world.
It's really tough! I was lucky that I only gigged for fun and not to generate income but I miss it so much and I can see how it is very hard for all independent musicians.
