Today we are going to talk about a simple technique used in guitar playing.
Palm-muting your notes is necessary to achieve a clean consistent sound and it also gives dynamics to your playing.
Especially with genres such as rock/metal, you use a mute to break up the riffs to help distinguish the beats in the bar.
For example, play a single note, now play a bar of 8th notes with no mute. Nothing special eh..
Now play the same bar of 8th notes and add muted notes on the first 2 notes of each 4.
Sounds rad! That's how we make cool riffs and voicings.
Dig in deep to change the tone of your mute and pick hard.
Now get writing some riffs!

Palm muting is great for adding variety and tightening up the sound. Your picking technique is great though. I struggle on fast stuff and having some nerve damage does not help. I'll keep playing anyway.

Practice is definitely the key, and playing some Metallica is always good training.

It's just a condition that came on a few years back. It means my right hand muscles have wasted a bit. I can still play, but not for so long. It's annoying, but it won't stop me. Got a gig tomorrow at a pub with my swing band.
